Auto dark appearance stopped working

16 inch MBP

Not sure when this started but lately my Mac won't switch to dark mode when it gets dark. This used to work just fine and I loved it. Of course, the appearance in system preferences is set to auto. If I click on "light" and then back on "auto", it immediately changes to dark mode if the time of day demands it. But if I don't do anything it won't do it by itself. It switches back to light mode in the morning automatically.

I have tried rebooting but it didn't help.

Anyone else with this issue? What can I try to fix it?

i fixed that with 3rd party app: Owl Night.

Automatic switching is also not working for me. I'm on Catalina .7 release. Quite annoying.
