According to Cydia, it was available at 5:56 pm Eastern today. How could anyone have tried it and formed an opinion?

That time stamp is not when it became available. It is showing the time you last refreshed your sources.

Auto3G does not seem to work properly with my passcode lock (which I can't switch off b/o work regulations)

Please, someone, I got this yesterday in hopes of a little extra battery, since I am a heavy user. To my surprise, nothing, can't get it to switch from 3G to edge on the lockscreen. I have a number of tweaks, but all are pretty normal stuff, nothing crazy, could I have a contradiction between tweaks? I turned off whatever I thought would cause it to not work in sbsettings, such as unrestrictor, lockinfo, mywi(just in case) and anything I didn't think would mess up the phone either. Any help is good help. I also emaile the developer but nothing yet. Thanks

Come on man, the time it took you to make that comment, you could have went into cydia, typed "Auto3G" and read about it.

If you're going to make a thread asking peoples opinions about something it generally makes sense to describe what you are talking about in the thread. It's your responsibility to do that not us to go into cydia.

I purchased it, seeing it was new on Cydia. So far, so good.

You can set it to have a time delay before it drops to EDGE, from none to one hour, as well as turn it off completely.

If I were to say if it was worth it, so far, yes. However, time will tell in seeing how far the phone will go between charges in real life though.

By the way, I removed LockInfo yesterday and my battery is lasting a lot longer now. I unplugged my phone 5 hours ago and its at 80%. Before removing LockInfo I would usually be at 40% by now.

Auto3G rocks

So I wasn't expecting much but I installed 1.2 it and it works great. My battery lasted another four or five hours yesterday b/c of it. Love it!

I've been running LockInfo for 52 hours since my last charge. I'm at 31%. I'll put it on the charger tonight. That's nearly 3 days between charges on an iPhone4.

Basically I set up LI to only check weather on the hour, and I use SBSchedule to limit bluetooth and WiFi operation. I have 2 email accounts with push mail, and a number of apps with push notifications.

I wanted to try out this Auto3G app to see if it truly could improve my battery life further. I may try it tomorrow, pending more feedback. It's still rather salty.

Works as advertised. But has some drawbacks. When you switch back to 3G the symbol changes from Edge to 3G in a few seconds but it is definitely not edge speed for another 20-30 seconds. I disabled it because it takes way to long to get off of edge even though it says it already switched to 3G.

I got this app 3 days ago and So far I have to say I'm impressed with it. The developer has updated the app 3 times in 3 days and I'm sure they will be doing more work on it.

So when I was in NY last night I decided to try this out. It really did increase my battery life. I usually get around 4 hrs of usage and 8-9 hrs of standby before a recharge. And with this app running I had 6 hrs of usage and 15 hrs of standby. I'll be doing more tests. I could see this being a great app when you go out, but when at home there isn't really a reason to use it.

The one major drawback, as said before was the time it takes to actually connect with the network. After it's on the lock screen on edge and you unlock the phone, it takes about 20-30 seconds to fully reconnect with the 3G network. Just long enough really to be annoying. Because of this, I'll probably set the delay to be 1-5 minutes.

Updatex1: I've been using this for the past couple days an have to say I'm still impressed with the application. Yeah you could manually switch between 3G and 2g but this app makes it that much easier and convenient. Also, I lost 3% of batt life with this on over night, only to find out that I also had location settings on too. So far so good.

Is this app worth 6$? Meh... Depends. Does it work as advertised? I would say heck yeah.

Well here is another thought on this. Like many I get bad signal spots my house is one of them. I have had Sprint,Verizon & AT&T they all have sucked. I have bought a Microcell to help resolve the issue. (Microcell uses 3G) so while Auto 3G turns it off it will defeat my Microcell. :(

Dev should offer a trial I want to see proof that I'll get 100% better battery life then it might be worth $6 bucks, but yes could pretty easily do the same thing though SBSettings . just turn off 3G before being done turn on 3G after unlocking.

The Developer's claim of 100% battery savings is completely misleading, as it is based on Apple's advertised talk time while this application only affects standby time. I do not believe there should be any difference between 3G and EDGE standby, since the signaling channel should be identical in either case.

The only situation in which I could see this app actually affecting battery life would be in a marginal signal area, when the phone might frequently switch back and forth between EDGE and 3G signals. In such a situation, the phone would spend an excessive amount of time renegotiating a connection if 3G were turned on.

I think the app is a complete waste of money. I rarely need 3G speed. And for phone calls, I would rather be on edge, so I don't get the dropped calls from the quick in/out 3G signal.

If I do want 3G to browse the Internet or whatever. I just turn it on through sbsettings. Takes two seconds.

you come asking for help, the least you could do is describe what the program does for people who are unaware of it

I usually leave it under edge unless i need data for browsing/maps

So this evening via Cydia i attempted to download the trial version of the app and instead of the link downloading Auto3g it downloads and installs iBlacklist.

Anyone else seeing this?

Now when I go back into Cydia I only have the option to purchase the app.

David

I don't believe the Dev is offering a trial he only gives me the option to buy it at $6 I will pass! even for Free I'll pass! I think you should read what thelatinist said a few post back he knows what he is talking about!

Not to revive a dead thread or anything, but it's been awhile since the last post, meaning a lot of time to put this app through the test. Has it really saved people a lot of battery life?

Yes i would like to know if this app drains battery as it is always running presumably watching for you locking your screen?

I'm trying it currently.

I don't really care to change the lock settings, so I just have the WiFi setting on.

Got it. Doesn't do much

It was glitchy at some point where I would have to respring atleast 2 times for it to work. Also, it takes up to 5~ seconds for the switch to be seen. Also, when your phone is locked and you tap the screen, it automatically goes back to 3G. Kinda sucks IMO.

I can't tell if it's working yet.

It appears to be using edge when I'm on WiFi.

It doesn't appear to be using edge when I'm locked though (I updated my settings for it to do that)
