Autocorrect has definitely gotten worse in ios8. I can tolerate the change of words from my real word to another word, but not when it changes later to kaurr or something that isn't even a word. So annoying.

I've been using the iPhone since the 3G, and I agree, autocorrect and typing in general seems to have gotten markedly worse after iOS 7. Everyone at the time defended it as "it's the same, you're just not adjusted to the new look of iOS 7."

But over a year in, and it's still doing all the nonsense that people in this thread are describing. So I guess my question is why? If they had an algorithm that was at least better than what they use now, why has it languished in this lousy state for so long?

Is it just me or is autocorrect just plain bad now?

Payment = oaymenr
Terminals = remibals
The= rhe

What are the words it tried to correct to anyway? Of course I fixed these in the keyboard shortcuts app, but who uses a word like oaymenr anyway????

Try typing on rhe keyboard of one of your remibals to make your oaymenr to Abbl when you buy youe next MabCoob. You nevr krow what will hbben.

I used to love it but it's getting worse it seems.

I tried to write "she'd" by typing "shed" (as it punctuates it for me).

But I wrote "shev" and it changed it to "Shevardnadze". Not sure what the likelihood of it being right is with those kinds of guesses...

Mine likes to leave "s" when I mean to type a single "a".

So it comes out like "I'm going to take s walk" but it DOESN'T EVER CORRECT IT! It's annoying because if I'm not mistaken, 's' isn't a word.

Since iOS 7, autocorrect really has been horrendous. It'll sometimes change a word that's three words before, so when I hit send, I look like a moron. Other times it'll change a word, so I go back and change it, then it'll change it again! It used to help me a lot, but lately I'm finding it's more of a PITA.

I have this problem too. Sometimes, I'll be typing a word and it will auto-correct it and I'm like "Sweet, that's what I wanted to type anyway" so I continue typing out my sentence, but then I go to hit send and as I'm hitting send, it changes the word to something completely different and people laugh at me like I'm stupid.

You might need to reset Autocorrect...

I've notiiced since iOS 8 autocorrect just plain SUCKS. It doesn't autocorrect to capitalize "america" (yes I'm typing this on my 6+ on iOS 8). Sometimes it changes it to american, what? Also notice how that's not capitalized? Doesn't capitalize montreal either....plus many times it automatically chooses a word that doesn't even make sense (such as the examples the OP gave). I don't have specific examples like that as I haven't really bothered to take note but damn is it annoying.

Maybe I'll try resetting the keyboard because perhaps I've mistyped those words in the past.

I personally use an iOS exclusive keyboard called nintype which absolutely destroys any keyboard iOS OR Android. Its that good.

I think it is available on Android as well. At any rate, I love it, but it has a few thing it does to me all the time. It often changes to to took because my finger slides down from the o. And when I try to say I it changes it to ok because of the same thing. It's overall an awesome keyboard, though I have some stability issues that I suspect are nintype and not iOS. Frequently when I open the messages app, it marks a message as read but the screen is frozen. I have to close messages and reopen it. They have fixed previous bugs though, so I think it will continue to get better. A little steep at $5, but well worth it!

Yeah, the iOS 8 "improvement" to auto-suggest is the worst (that's where it presents a list of 3 or more possible words in a horizontal line right above the keyboard.

I turned that off. (Like few other iOS "improvements", unfortunately.)
