I haven't tried Vegas Pro yet, I am using FCE with a Sony PC100 but I just bought a Sony SR12 a few weeks ago and will be ramping up to use that for all my video work. After reading about the jaggies with all the Mac software I really want to explore options.
It looks like Vegas Pro is a Windows only application, is that correct?

Unfortunately, yes.

Hello,
You asked about getting HD video to family who may not have HD equipment.
I found that I can take HD footage, edit it in FCE4 or iMovie 08, and then export to quick time movie which results in a 1920x1080 in .MOV format file.
The file can be very large, mine was over 6 GB for 12 minutes of video.
This can then be used in iDVD, which will downscale the footage to SD resolution.
The resulting disk plays perfectly well in a 'normal' DVD player (with the 'panning issues' as seen at the top of this thread).

I have no idea why the quicktime movie is so huge, but at least I can then export the project again to .MP4 which is under .5 GB in size.

So, it can be done, you can shoot in HD, but then set your output to meet your needs, SD DVD or high Def Blu Ray or High Def .mov / .MP4 files.

Hello,

You might want to try using your new Sony camera with FCE prior to going down the Sony Vegas route as it seems that there are issues even with this process. I would take time to read the Sony Vegas forums prior to investing in the new software. I did and it put me off from buying any of the Vegas suites.

At least I can keep the process within the :apple: world, even if it is not perfect.
