I bought my first mac in 2009. A 2 year old 2GB of RAM 15" MBP. Sold it and bought a new 2009 15"MBP. Then bought a new 13" MBA in 2010. Sold the 15" MBP and bought a used 15"MBP in 2011 cuz I wanted quad-core. All good until radeon gate struck. Repaired and sold. Bought new 15" rMBP in late 2013. Amazing machine.

So, I still have a 4 year old MBA but a less than 1 year old MBP. So, 2-3 year vote.

I swapped my 2006 mb with the late 2013 rmbp last November. Seven years is pretty decent I think.

I bought a late 2011 13" MBP back in 2012. I've put an SSD, 16GB RAM, and replaced the optical drive with one of those 1TB Hybrid Drives.

It's extremely fast and does everything I need so I'll probably be keeping this one 5+ years. I don't see a need to buy a newer one.

First mac I've owned as a mid 2007 Macbook Pro that I got in August 2007 and replaced in October 2010 with another. However that machine was in an accident, so I don't think it counts and I got it's replacement, which is the machine I'm writing this on, in May 2011. Would have zero plans on replacing it if it wasn't for the GPU being crap, which is why I've decided to get a second hand mid 2012 or early 2013 Pro at some point next fall.

Thus you could say I replace my machines a little over 3 years apart.
