I posted this in another thread before but for some reason it didn't add the poll and was giving me issues when I tried to add it afterwards, so here is a new thread.

I was talking to a friend and he was telling me about an article he read that was saying you can tell the household income of someone within something like $25k based off the model they purchased and be right a majority of the time. I'm just curious if this has any truth behind it at all so I thought it might be fun to post a poll here.

Select the watch model and your income in the poll. (which is anonymous, btw)

This thread is stupid and pointless.

People everyday buy expensive stuff even if they don't make a lot of money. There is a justification for everything. Owning something expensive/cheap shouldn't define your class

Unless you walk around and make a comment about all of the things you find "stupid", you could have gone right past this thread.

B.S. Totally. You can't tell anything by what watch, or anything else, someone is wearing. Give The Millionaire Next Door a read (http://www.amazon.com/The-Millionaire-Next-Door-Surprising/dp/1589795474). Plenty of people live large of credit they can't easily pay back except in tiny installments. (see also: reasons for 2008 financial crash). They are not wealthy, just pretend to be until they make one purchase too many and the house of cards come crashing down.

(FWIW I am financially comfortable and bought the cheapest AW sold. Why? Go read The Millionaire Next Door).

I've read this book and I;m in the same boat as you. I could have purchased a home 4+ times the price I did but I didn't because I wanted to save money each month, buy things that I want, and go on vacations, etc. With that said, I think most people (90+%) buy exactly what they think they can afford so there will be a strong pattern for each model.

Stupid poll as a lot of people buy on credit.

Buying on credit has nothing to do with income. I don't see your correlation?

Ok I'll bite and do your poll. Interesting experiment.

I will say that it's natural to see a pattern of those making less money to buy less expensive products and vice versa. It also depends if you're cheap or not.

My philosophy is what good is money if you don't spend it. You can't take it with you when you die.

Never said it did. I'm saying buying an Apple Watch is not based on income.

So if I wear an Apple Watch I'm considered rich ? Do you guys realize an iPhone 6/6+ is $700+ unlocked yet everyone got one even people with minimum wage jobs, just sayin...

Why would they buy the watch they could afford if they can't manage to buy the home or car they can afford vs the one they want? This is a pure impulse buy, and many are going to over do it like anything else -- buying what the heart desires vs what fits their financial best interests.

In my case, I could have comfortably afforded just about any AW other than the high end gold ones but it would have been a waste of $. Spending more doesn't get me more features or increase practical longevity so buying up didn't seem wise. It wasn't a matter of not having the $, just not wanting to spend it on a sexier case. At $350 I get all of the AW functionality so why spend more? It's never going to be a classic timepiece or jewelry.

Reminds me of that Youtube video when that guy thinks he's rich because he has a base model C-Class

Loooool please post link. I'd love to see that.

I went with the base model AW as well. For me, personally, the value just wasn't there for the higher end models. I'm extremely value oriented (not cheap lol)

I don't think it correlates. People bought their watch based on many things such as value for money, it being a first generation product, model preference, model availability etc

The iPhone costs a lot more than the base Apple watch model, as do iPads and macs which a lot of Apple watch owners also own.

Exactly. Spending more doesn't get you anything more apart from aesthetics and that is entirely debatable. I bought the iPhone 6+ 128gb over other iPhone models because I wanted a bigger, higher resolution screen, with more storage with better battery life and a better camera. So for it was worth the extra money. My sports watch does exactly the same thing as the editon. I'm not really a watch person, haven't worn one for about 6 years so I don't see the point in spending an excessive amount of money. Also this is a first gen product, I also am not 100% how useful it will be for me hence not splashing out.

That c class video made me sad and angry at the same time, can't believe people are like that.

You know this stuff doesn't even correlate among big ticket items like cars. I know plenty of people who make less than $50k yet will drive around BMWs while multi millionaires drive around with honda civics.

I bought with saved up Christmas and Birthday money :D. I guess that puts me at the $0 on the poll because I also don't have a job.

well, I've been playing/browsing on the internet ever since the dial-up days. one thing I learned very quickly is that we can be whoever we want to be on the internet. so naturally everyone is tall, dark, handsome and of course, rich. lol

but then there are people like myself that see reality with every second that I live. so therefore, I for one am not tall, dark, handsome and definitely not rich. but none of that matters as long as my very special and loving wife loves me.

everything else pretty much means zilch. :)

This is super interesting! Ignore the naysayers, I can't wait to see more result :D
