There are BIG differences I'm sure.

There was a TV program a few years ago about the homes of the very rich.

Richard Branson (UK) was there his island home, all quite rustic, stonework, quality but basic in an expensive way. Very nice.

They then moved onto a selection of American homes.
All utterly vile and tasteless.
Gold here, Marble there, Crystal Chandeliers all over the place.

Just as if someone went thru a catalog book and said, I'll have the most expensive thing of each type and throw them all in an expensive building and that's now classy.

Not one American home, on the show was tasteful and understated quality, it was all, tacky glamour and glitch designed to in your face show off wealth.

lol. The show you are referring to is MTV Cribs and the point of it is for rappers and artist to show off the rediculous things they waste money on. Definitely not representative of what we have in our homes

All this poll really tells us is that the majority of people on MR who responded to it seem to make between 100 and 150k a year on average.
