What do you check immediately if you haven't used it in a few hours? When you wake up? What app(s) do you open when you're bored? What can it do that an iPhone can't?

I'm excited to be getting an iPad and I want to know what you guys are doing with your iPads.

it's so much better for surfing the web than an iphone. its superb for movies and youtube videos. i play fruit ninja hd every time i don't fancy browsing the web. it more or less a netbook without a keyboard. i'd say go for it.

In order of use:
1) read comic books and magazines
2) surf net/read news
3) put photos on slideshow on desk at work
4) mail
5) play cards and sudoku
6) read EPUB
7) music, 10 hours battery life is great and I don't put a strain on my iPhone.
8) watch movies or TV shows

What don't I do on my iPad?

I manage nearly everything I might do on my G5 or last gen smaller mac mini, so that's

Web
Mail
Pages, import and export word files fine
Numbers, import and export excel files fine, even huge data logger files
View photos just taken when I'm out, using camera kit

What I don't do is

Update my website elygreen.org
(why no rapidweaver, what a shame)
Manage photos in Aperture

Basically it's quite splendid, enjoy one, it's such a great tool

Hm, didn't we just have this exact topic? Anyway my new favorite use is an alarm clock. I can choose the song I wake up to, the specific picture of the Maldive Islands that I wake up to, and then when I silence it I am already conveniently holding my email and newspapers.

Watching movies? No, it's too slow for that. Web browsing? Yes, because I love being able to turn it on in a second, go to a webpage for a few minutes, and toss it back in my backpack without ever worrying about shutting down or conserving battery.

iPad activity

Husband hogs it for:
1) Words with Friends
2) Netflix (with Bose headphones) I'm not sure why he does this considering we have two huge TVs in our house with all the fancy accessories on both.
3) Researching new purchases
4) Reading the news (mostly USA today app)
5) Stalking me via Find my iPhone as I drive home from class

I use it for:
1) Reading via the Kindle app. (iPad + treadmill = fantastic)

I find my needs are better met by my trusty MacBook. I am a part time graduate student and I need more things open and more space to work and just "more" stuff.

I use these apps multiple times a day -

Email
Web Browsing
Netflix
Air Video (watching videos stored on my Mac)
ABC Player
PBS Player
Numbers (keep track of blood glucose tests)
Notes (sync notes with iPhone and Mac via Gmail)
PocketBible
Calendar
Bluefire Reader (use to read ebooks from local library)
Kindle (main ebook reader)
Zinio (subscribe to 3 magazines)
ReaddleDocs (use to view files stored in DropBox as well as use to view content captured on web)

Basically the iPad has become my primary computer and I only use my Mac for Quicken and H&R Block for taxes.

I use mine for:

1: Surfing
2: Email
3: Reading
4: Listening to radio (Tune in radio app)
5: Music
6: Watching You Tube

I have an iPhone, but surfing, email etc are so much more pleasurable than doing them on the iPhone. I got my iPad at Christmas and I don't regret buying it, it's a great device.

Games, games, games, games, email, games, games, games, games, safari, games, games, games, games, games, VLC, games, email, games, games, games, games, games.

Then repeat. every day.

I can't wait for the iPad 2 so I can do all those things you guys mentioned. (except the pron ;) )

I would say 95% of my use is surfing the web (web browser). I rarely use it for other net things like YouTube.

The other 5% would be for the Remote App (Apple TV) as well as a game very rarely, a stocks app and weather app.

I use the iPad about 2 hours a day I'd say.

Email, calendar, browsing
Reading kindle books
Reading Zino magazines
Music via iPod, pandora, or slacker
Movies via air video or Netflix
Notes via evernote
Office docs via iWork and quick office and omnigraffle
Remote Mac access via iteleport
Skype calls

While I could not fully replace a computer with an iPad, the iPad is great for most needs most of the time. Still need a full fledged laptop for many programs and activities but a minority of the time.

  • Notes - Handwritten
  • PDF's
  • Document Editing
  • Document Reviewing (RFP's and so on)
  • AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor file reviews using native apps
  • E-Mail
  • Web
  • Internet
  • Photo Library
  • Educational Videos
  • Books - mostly Educational as the brain can always learn new things
  • Wikipedia
  • Twitter - mostly news follow-ups

I use my iPad a lot throughout the day:
-Taking notes in class
-Reading books
-Typing up essays in Pages with wireless Apple keyboard
-Browse the web
-Waste time playing Angry Birds, Fieldrunners, Plants vs Zombies, World of Goo and many more
-Read magazines, Auto Week, Automobile, Car and Driver
-Check my email
-Import pictures for quick viewing and use Photoshop Express to do quick editing
-Remote for my Apple TV
-Watch Netflix or saved movies and tv shows
-Read WSJ in the mornings
-Do some quick CAD checking
-Keep up with stocks, weather, and keep the calendar updated

I dont know what I would do without it! :apple:

I'm a new iPad user so perhaps I'm only scratching the surface of its ability, but here's what I use it ( in no particular order)

  • Bible Reader
  • Surf the web
  • Email
  • watch videos/movies
  • play games
  • take notes for meetings
  • maintain my schedule, i.e., calendar
  • documents - spreadsheets/documents
  • reading books (this is one my favorite activities on the ipad)
  • photos
  • remote access to my mac and work computers (the work one is not quite in place yet)

The first thing I do every morning is check my mail and read the Times with my Breakfast coffee
Then, during the day my use varies depending on what I'm doing: It could be taking notes in meetings with Daily Notes, listening to the radio with Tunein, listening to music with Spotify, writing reports with Pages, doing remote support with Wyse PocketCloud or simply surfing the net and watching videos
On a night, I'll spend a few hours surfing the net whilst sat in front of the TV, maybe playing a game or two or catching up with my tasks with ToDo.

I've had my iPad for 4 months now, having been skeptical about its usefulness at first but I can honestly say I use it more and more every day and it has been the best thing I've ever bought :)
