That's interesting, I was expecting performance to suffer.

Are you using AMA or "native" MXF?

No, I wasn't using AMA. I will test it though. I rarely use AMA. It's good for checking your footage in the field or for a really fast edit, but when you're doing anything long form, it's a lot more stable to just ingest the footage.

I'm headed oversees for a two-month project in late July, and I'm going to need a mobile editing station while I'm away, so I've already placed my order for a new MBP+R. I can't wait for Avid to officially certify it (I'll be in the arctic by then), so I'm going to take a risk and hope it works right now. I really don't see why it wouldn't. The intel video card is powerful enough to run MC6,

I'll be the guinea pig, and I'll be sure to post the results here. If it doesn't work, I'll just return it to the local Apple store, and somebody else will buy it about ten minutes later.

I love the idea that you're going to beta test an uncertified laptop and graphics card not only in the field, but in the arctic away from fedX. It will probably work, but please tell me that are really kicking the tires before you leave, or have a good plan B

MC 6 alone still has a few kinks to work out, though I guess if you are just logging and making select reels in the field it might not matter.

We've had the experience of testing MC on a new model back in 2009 with the Uni's.
We weren't too far from civilization but still v4.x survived and v5. fared better after.
We too of late are experiencing the bugs in MC 6.x.

Good luck and come back with your findings soon :)

Well, I'm not using AMA because I've digitized all my footage properly, but I'm definitely putting the machine through its paces as I finish the edit of a feature-length documentary: www.racingtherock.com.

But yeah, I will definitely be in the middle of nowhere, with no help from Fedex (or even the Avid forums) as we make this upcoming show on an uninhabited island in the arctic. Based on the past few days of testing, though, I'm feeling very confident about it. So long as I can keep it warm and dry. Fingers crossed for pelican cases and silica gel...
