with Best Buy, amazon and a host of other places give $100 off right now, is the AW5 still worth it, or should I wait for the 6?

I decided not to wait and picked up an AW5 from Target (same $100 off sale), and glad to have it now during the summer. The anticipated updates for the AW6 weren't important enough to me to wait.

what were the updates suppose to be? I’ve been busy and haven’t seen them

I also upgraded from 1 to 5 in late April when Costco had the 100 off. They were out, but I got Best Buy to match it. Glad to be more up to date. The 1 was slowing way down.

The question is are those to be hardware, or software features? Sleep Tracking would seem to be software only, with the advantage of the Series 6 being a larger battery. The Blood Oxygen I'm not sure if the sensors on the Series 4/5 watch would be capable of detecting this though.

The other question is whether Apple will intentionally withhold some of this from past watches to make it exclusive to the series 6. I’m hoping not. I have two watches. I use one for sleep. Battery life doesn’t matter to me now, unless we’re talking days in improvement.

PulseOx is neat, but it will kill the battery. I tried a Fenix for a week, and even that huge battery and dull screen had significant battery hit from PulseOx monitoring over night.

Wait for the keynote next week and see what will be offered in the next version of watch OS. That should help you decide if you need the next model or the AW 5.

I got to say it, when you’re using the word ‘worth’ in your post, what does that even mean? What do you think is worth it to you that you would want a Series 5? You’re the only one that can make that decision in terms of what features would benefit you versus waiting for the S6 launching likely in the fall. It’s just a common thing for everybody to say ‘is it worth‘, when you need to ask yourself that. (As in, what features do you like about the S5, is the discount steep enough where you don’t see yourself upgrading to the S6 if it launches, ect.)

There are plenty of lucrative discounts right now, which is also another indication that retailers are likely Loosely preparing for the Series 6 and the next 14 weeks or so.

I agree, I had a Fenix 6 Pro, and when I had the PulseOX feature turned on, I could get maybe 4 days out of the battery. That was with it on 24/7. Without the feature, I got close to 2 weeks of battery. That watch was so huge, the HR function so "variable", and so much more than I needed, I sold it after a few months. With apps like WorkOutDoors, and a few others, the Apple Watch I have (Series 4) will do everything I need, and darn near everything the Fenix would do.
