Since his profile says last seen Nov 20, 2019 he might not be on here. If it's swelling it could be the battery though and with lithium batteries you don't want to take a chance. They can be a fire hazard. I know Apple stores in the USA will be opening soon but not sure where you live

Thanks for the reply. I am residing in the Philippines and all mac stores are still close so I am really worried. It has been like this for I guess two months now... i just noticed it when I heard the speakers having this loud noise when a bass-like sounds are playing. when I removed the hard case I saw that there are small openings already. :( I read that Macbook pro are designed to be plugged in while using... so i am not sure what have cause it if its the battery.

Is it a 2015 15" Macbook pro? They had a recall program on those. I'm not sure what noise it could be making but if it looks like the case is expanding that's not good! Even plugged in the battery still can go bad.

Its a 2018 Macbook Pro. :( just bought it a year ago... :( Kinda frustrated here... :(
Sometimes batteries can go bad. Do you think it’s separated for reasons other than the battery? You might call Apple but I don’t know if they will even let you mail it if the battery could be an issue. Hopefully all this madness ends soon and the Apple stores will be open

I bet if it's the battery Apple won't even charge you. I hope it's nothing too serious. Keep an eye out for it in case it swells more. I know what you mean about going back to normal. It's driving me crazy 😞

I hope so. Coz I can't think of any reason why it will swell like this. I use it for every day's work so I have no choice but to use it while it still swells... :( yeah this pandemic is driving everyone crazy...

The technology used for these batteries is prone to swelling if not treated properly. It's also possible that it was exposed to a voltage spike, which can cause that. The battery swelling is the only reason I could come up with for the case bottom to be popping off.

You might not want to hear this, but the absolute safest option is to discontinue use of the computer and not plug it in to power until the issue can be resolved. I would make a backup of any data prior to doing that, to ensure it's not lost during the repair.

No Suprise. 2 of my MBP battery bulge after 3 years. just have it replace with only cost $200.

Thanks, Ill take note of that. Oh my, the thing is I have no choice but to use it until the Mac Service Centers opens again this June... :( What might happen if I will still use it for a few more weeks?

So its a normal issue with MBP... :( So sad... paying 3k for a unit that will give you more expenses after a year of use is frustating... :(

Lithium batteries can catch on fire if they rupture. Perhaps when not in use put it someplace away from anything that would burn. No this isn’t an issue with the MacBook but all devices with lithium batteries. It’s not common but does happen. There was a specific issue with the batteries in the 15 inch MacBook Pro from 2015 but that’s the only problem is specific to the MacBook

This is what all about using Apple products. just like you owning a luxury car doesn't mean the part is much superior, but the quality of making is. Example ( German car vs Japanese Car). That the reason why I never pay more than $2300 for any apple product. if not, guarantees I will cry after. Somehow we pay much more of Apple products is because of the design and MacOs.

If it helps, I had exactly this issue with my 2017 13" MacBook Pro with TouchBar. I called Apple Support to get it fixed. They agreed to fix it (with potential cost to me) and sent a box to package the MacBook before despatching it via UPS to their support centre to fix (in the Czech Republic - I am in the UK). They replaced the battery, the whole of the top cover including keyboard and touch pad + numerous other bits. When quickly returned, the bottom case had been straightened out and it sat nicely on its four feet. After a bit of discussion, Apple agreed it would be a no cost to me repair. I suspect this might have been made easier because of the UK's Consumer Rights Act 2015 which can give you up to 6 years warranty. I didn't expect a very expensive laptop computer to go u/s in under three years. I am pleased that Apple responded appropriately and note that their customer service was first class. :)

I've had nothing but positive experience with Apple support in the USA where we don't have as much government protection. The last time they replaced my phone under AppleCare even though my 💩 cell phone provider canceled it. They could have told me that it's not their problem and the bottom tech support guy tried to tell that but I simply asked for a supervisor and an exception was made.

Hi... i recently had this same issue now. Was it a battery defect?

I know this is an old threadng but I had the same issue. I hope someone can still reply as to what issue is this. Thanks.
Hi,

It was not a battery issue, but a bent case. Apple didn't replace it, at some point I sold the machine.
