It's shrouded in glass folks It's going to break when dropped. Expecting anything to the contrary is simply foolish.

Gizmondo is reporting real news morons not made up news. What if they didn't report the signal dropping problem or the yellow spot problem? It's you guys that think Apple can do no wrong, and want to call Gizmondo a bad news site because it's reporting flaws on the phone. If they don't report things like this it will take longer to get fixed.
BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!! Real news like... Lets see.. Throwing an Apple employe under the bus and giving out his FB profile? How about they real news they broke about messing with everything at CES? **** gizmodo. Im willing to say that. Go suck a %^&* Giz.

We reported this issue first, not "Gizmondo".

It's also reported on every tech site, not just "Gizmondo". The bastian of journalistic integrity.

on second look, it loos like the reflection is doubled and it looks like there is a silver outline :p my bad

Yeah, this story can't be true.

There's no *way* this phone is going to have any major design issues.

I think this is a ploy to show off that they are taking a picture of the broken iPhone with a WHITE iPhone 4....

Isn't there a post below that one showing a guy dropping it 4 times before it broke?

I have to ask why this 'harder than the old phone' glass still breaks like the old one? ie. drop it 4 or 5 times or one "perfect" drop and it's over.

I dropped mine last night in my bathroom. It fell about 3 feet onto my tile floor. Not a scratch or scuff. I did have a Zagg full body cover on mine.

Glass breaks... moving on. Gizmodo has gone from an Apple fanboi site to an RSS feed for "Cupertino" hate. They have no real credibility left unless you like sour grapes. I used to love them but thought they were too easy on Apple. They have swung the other way and it's really pathetic.

ash =o)

I picture an iPhone 4 laying on the ground and Gizmodo with a jackhammer on top of it, then tomorrows headline:

"iPhone 4 breaks when dropped"

The Motorola Droid uses the same type of glass and people have broken it accidentally.

The iPhone 4 has double the amount of glass (front and back) and therefore has roughly double the chances of breakage.

Each owner can decide for themselves the element of risk involved with their own device, and how much protection it needs. They just need to realize that it's not unbreakable.

Apple didn't say iPhone 4 is drop proofed. WTF? Gizmodo is really a douche. Apple should ban them from all Apple events.

I no longer read Gizmodo.. It all just seems like crap now.

And the pictures from that drop? That looks like a substantial impact on the bottom corner.... Yesterday the phone was dropped 4 times from a few feet above and the glass broke; this one fell about a foot.. and this happened?

Sounds like a pile of crap to me.

How the phone reacts to a drop depends entirely on what part of it hits the ground first. If it's an edge or corner, bad things will happen. There was another drop test video where it took 3 tries from 4' to asphalt to break it as badly as this.

It also wouldn't surprise me if the iPhone 4 was "easier" to break just because it is heavier and made of more rigid materials (glass and steel rather than mostly plastic).

Gizmondo...reporting flaws on the phone. If they don't report things like this it will take longer to get fixed.

I don't think that's the issue here.

The issue is that you can dropping ANYTHING and it'll break. It's not news.

Crappier cell phones, light bulbs, babies, toys, guitars, cds, food.

What do you expect? The phone is made of glass. When Apple said it was hard to ruin, I'm sure they were meaning "in your pocket with your keys" or by "sitting it on your desk" or whatever. Not dropping it on pavement from getting out of your car.

Everything breaks. Even news.

I had my phone on my bed this morning and it fell off, probably 2 feet with the box spring and mattress and stand. Not a scratch on it. It landed on hardwood flooring.

As was writing my response above, you know, the one where I say "everything breaks", this happened to my glass of water... without me even touching it.

So, you see, even a glass of water can break without any human interaction!

EVERYTHING BREAKS!

Even iPhones.

FYI: Photo taken with an iPhone 4.

It's not indestructible. You can probably drop it again from a foot off the ground or 10 feet off the ground and it might not break. I guess it boils down to luck :p
