Defective glue. The vast majority of us, including yourself, haven't had the back come off our AWs so it's simply a small subset of it, as is the case with any random manufacturing defects.

I'm not so sure. Perhaps it depends on the climate where you live, how much you sweat, etc? Some have experienced multiple times.

Mine was perfect for 11 months. I would have thought it was a very rare thing and sorta dismissed the reports on here as how they handled it.

However, here I am, 11 months in, and mine did it too after all that time.

Maybe the way I treat my watch it lasts almost a year, maybe the way you treat it, it would last 24 months before coming off, but it seems unlikely the glue is just accidentally messed up on this many.

The camera washer shift on the 6 and 6 Plus seemed to be every single unit given enough time.

I think your statement makes 100 percent sense, but sometimes there is a not so thought out design that with the right environment, shows up, repeatedly, almost without fail.

Age is irrelevant. Backs have detached on few-day-old AWs as well as those over a year old depending on how weak the defective glue is. Defective glue may take longer or shorter time to weaken over time to the point that the back falls off depending on the severity of the defect. However, heat may play a factor because it'll hasten a defective glue quicker compared to a non-defective glue.

If it were like the crescent moon camera issue on iPhone 6, everyone's backs would be coming off and we're not seeing this.

The round back panel of my Apple Watch (SS 38cm) started detaching from the watch body. It just stuck to the magnetic charger when I picked up the watch this morning, and only a wire kept the watch and panel connected. Now it pops off when I lay it down on the desk, etc. Going to the Genius Bar to get it fixed. Will need to keep it away from water and sweat until then, since I'm pretty sure it has lost its water resistance property.

Considering Apple Stores don't issue replacements at the Genius Bar and instead leverage AppleCare and the Depo team, you're better off saving a trip to the Bar and just calling 1-800-APL-CARE to log a case. Depending on what you want to do, they will either send you an empty box for you to send back your Watch, and then they will send you a new one OR if you'd like a replacement before you send your  Watch off, they will require a security deposit and then will FedEx Next-Day a replacement Watch, and then you can send off your old watch.

Happened to mine. Chatted with Apple. They said it is a known issue and would fix for free. I'm out of warranty but have apple care. They did not invoke app,e care just fixed. I did the express ship. They place an authorization on your CC. I got my new watch the next day sent it back in the shipping box (super easy Apple solution). They got old back in 2 days authorization disappeared from pending on my CC

Super easy
I had the same good experience you described, but later realized I was charged $79 on my credit card.
