I don't mod Model Ms, I let the manufacturer do it for me :)

I realize keyboards are somewhat subjective, but I do make a conscious decision to use one because I really like them.

I also use a lot of Apple Extendeds, although I prefer buckling springs somewhat to damped Alps.

I don't like the Cherry switches I've tried, but again preference.

In all honesty, though, even the mighty Model M bows down to the keyboard on the Selectric :)

They are which is is why I'm glad there is a lot of choice. I don't like big keyboards, back lights, lot's of MM keys, etc this is one are where KISS is the best.

I like lighting effects, but i don't see a need for a bunch of fancy MM keys. I may game, but I don't think i would ever have a use for the special keys. If i was more aggressive than casual, then maybe. I just like loud keyboards :D

Heh. On the topic of keyboards, my DD is a Ducky Mini. 60% Tiny! It has Cherry MX Blues and, yes, lighting effects. It does have media keys, arrow keys, everything except a number pad.

everything except a number pad.

To me, the lack of a number pad is a deal killer on any keyboard, especially one where I pay big bucks.

I make such heavy use of them that I have two or three portable USB ones at stashed in places where I'm likely to need them.

Not only do they make my day job easier, but it's also impossible to play Civ II without one :)

You didn't answer my question, have you used a 40" 4K monitor? I'm gonna assume NO.
You didn't respond to my comments... I'm offended.

My question to you is what are you doing with this setup? I assume gaming?

From everything I've read about using 4K TV's as monitors, it sounds like a questionable idea, especially with a middle of the road GPU. Text is blurry and hard to read. Refresh rates are also pretty poor- you're at 60Hz?

If the motherboard supports HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 then a dedicated GPU isn't even required for 4K @ 60hz.

The older 4K TVs had issues with blurry text as most were 4:2:2 chroma or smooth picture as most were locked at 30z.

However my display - the Crossover 404k - is technically a pure monitor because it lacks a TV Tuner (coaxial input) and does 4:4:4 chroma along with 60hz. Furthermore the picture quality for video consumption is really good with the high contrast ratio; AH-IPS is about 3000:1 whereas IPS is only 1000:1. The only real drawback is that I can notice some slightly color shift around the parimeter so a curved display would be better in this scenario.

As for uses. Mostly browsing the web, watching youtube and twich, emails and light gaming.

You laugh, but I built a hackintosh inside a beige Compaq case from 1998.

That's like taking a Daewoo Lanos and putting a Corvette engine in it.

The OP's situation on the other land is like taking a Corvette and putting putting autozone aftermarket parts in it- pink gear shifter, Hawaiian seat covers, bolt on pink metallic pedal covers.

You need a reality check bro.

The stock G4 cube is like a 4 banger and my "aftermarket" parts are are like an LS swap.

No one that knows anything about computer parts would consider a Z170 motherboard or an i5-6600k (unlocked) cpu "auto zone quality."

Uhhh you need to readjust your perspective bro. I am saying that the Cube is the Corvette (conventionally considered a pretty expensive, good looking car) and that you're adding on cheap cheesy looking shlock to it that doesn't match the essence of the car.

And obviously I know that a 15 year old, 400mhz is slower than anything sold today. Should have gone with an i7 ;)

You're example with Corvettes just proves my point. Everyone is modding their Corvette LS engines to get better performance. Much like how I modded the G4 Cube to get better performance.
