I'm looking for a nice, wide (7680 x 1600 pixel) background picture that spans all three monitors on my mac pro (see my sig).

The three monitors are each 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Displays, with 2560 x 1600 pixels per monitor. They are placed in a row on my desk (horizontally).

So, in other words, I need a picture that is altogether 7680 x 1600 pixels.

    Any suggestions?

By the way, right now I am just using three separate images provided by Apple with Mac OS 10.4 from the "Black & White" Desktops, namely, Sea Mist on the left monitor, Lightning on the middle monitor, and Pier on the right monitor. For instance, a Lightning picture that spans all three monitors would be cool.

My computer is named "hermione", and the lightning is somehow reminiscent of Harry Potter, who has a scar that looks like a lightning bolt.

Use three wallpapers that compliment each other? Try interfacelift.com
I just don't know that you'll find many tri-display wallpapers @ that res.

I did see a few tri-display background in his collection, and I appreciate the suggestion. Thanks!

Does anybody else have other good suggestions? I realize that we are talking about a huge amount of screen "real estate" here.

I have a 30", my "Hummer™" Monitor (excessively and unnecessarily large for 99% of things), and I still lose stuff on the screen. Having 3 would be ridiculous. I think I'd go searching for rogue windows for about 2 minutes until I finally turned my head 70 degrees to find it sitting in the bottom left-hand corner for monitor #3.

How about a 7680 x 1600 picture of your wallet.

I still haven't settled on a set of nice background pictures for my displays.

I only have one picture of my computer (from this summer), which I took on the day it arrived. (The background pictures you see in the picture only lasted for a few days; I changed them long ago.) I'll try to take a newer picture sometime soon:

    Solution

    Hi.

With 3 x 30" displays I struggled with this too. While many of the great pics on mandolux are great (except the caged kangaroo pics), I have ended up sticking to a few of the very high res graphics on 'digital blasphemy'. There are a few images there (like the tree in the field - a summer one and a fall/autumn version). They look good, and don't cause the blinding glare caused by some of the photos.

I once saw an awesome photo on a website, 7680x1600, that was a pic of a great white shark taken from a shark cage as it swam by with its mouth open. Truly awesome but for the life of me I can't seem to locate it.

    Hope this helps.

I love the smell of 2 year old threads in the morning. (I am hoping that he found something by now)

Wow, we revived a two-year-old thread. OK, this is a surprise. No, I never did find something for three screens that satisfied me, but I'm going to take a look at the suggestion posted today.

More suggestions are welcome. I haven't spent much time looking since this thread was originally active.

Well, with all of that power and screen real estate-- don't you have the means to make your own backgrounds? I mean really, take some nice panoramic shots or something and mesh them together. :p

what video cards do you have

    Hi,

Sorry to reopen this old thread again, but I'm looking to add a third 30" to my setup. I wanted to know what video cards you used? I have one 8800GT currently so need to add another to support the third display.

    thanks

    Roger

Hi there Roger. I hope that you won't laugh, because I just have 3 of the NVIDIA 7300 GT video cards in my Mac Pro. It's the first generation of the octo-core Mac Pro's (early 2007), and I don't need any "fast" graphics because I'm not doing gaming or anything like that. I just need lots of visual space for the scientific computing that I'm doing. Lots and lots of data. I hope that this helps. So I have one monitor per video card.
