I think its a bug with cydia.

wouldn't necessarily say it's a bug, more of a problem with the original and 3G iphones not having a fast enough processor and not enough RAM. The 3GS is much snappier, I click into cydia and can be typing in the search within 5 seconds. The original iphones have trouble refreshing all of the repositories, updating the lists, and allowing you to be clicking through screens and searching at the same time!

My 3G takes over a minute longer to load up cydia compared to my 3GS.
