So how generous is Apple about accepting that these complaints about backlight bleed/tint are actual defects?
Apple is usually great about making sure their customer is happy.
I've never had them deny me a replacement/service regardless how minute the complaint may be.

Read about a number of users with display issues, either backlight bleeding, or some kind of tint. Unfortunately I have BOTH !!

1. Red Tint
As you can see, there is a reddish patch on the top left and a little less pronounce red patch in the bottom right.

2. Backlight Bleed
Left edges and left bottom.

I went through a couple of iPad 2s with the backlight bleed issue and ended up just returning the last one in frustration and in hope I wait it out and wait for for the iPad 3. Never had such issue with the iPad 1. THis is really quite disappointing.

Picture attached. Any others with similar issues (the red tint seem to be less prevalent as compared to the yellow tint)?

Debating on whether I should have it exchanged. Fear of getting another dud. Any feedback?

The red tint is IPS Glow......google it. Normal for IPS screens.

Just wait about 5 days and do another exchange or return it and wait for the next batch.
Don't lower your standards or expectations because some are saying these issues are acceptable.

For a $500+ premium device, I would expect nothing less than something that meets your standards, not below them.

Yeah when I said I give up, I meant just get a refund. I shouldn't have to be quality control for apple. Kind of weird how all the iPads on display at the apple store are perfect..

The display models might not be perfect; I find it very hard to see the uneven backlight in a brightly lit space like the Apple store.

I've come to the conclusion that it is either a bad batch at my local store or it is just the way it is... I'll try once more in a week or so, then I'll just return it for a refund if it isn't fixed.

Any luck yet?

No. Exchanged it one last time, got one pink at the bottom, and said enough is enough. Got a refund.

I'm sure I'm being more picky than most, but the poor uniformity does bother me in regular use... I'm not sitting in a dark room with the shades down and a blanket over my head inspecting this thing.

Whatever. Bought a new watch instead. Probably a better use of my money anyway since my current one isn't keeping time. (Hell, I'm probably being picky there too, it's only off 1-2 minutes a week...)

Sorry to hear that, mate.

Oh well, perhaps you'll have greater luck with a new batch in a couple of months. Keep trying, it's worth it!

Likewise, I exchanged my first iPad 3. I spend most of my time with it reading and the uneven brightness is very distracting to me. The second one is better, but not great. I don't know what I'm going to do. It's a shame, because the pixel density is to die for. Maybe that's what makes the uneven brightness so annoying.

Hi,

I am new at this community. Last Friday i bought an new iPad at an Premium Reseller in the Netherlands. Today is did the following test: http://www.ipadmalaysialabs.com/ipad-backlight-bleeding-dead-pixels-test/. I found that my iPad shows some signs of backlight bleeding. I cannot make a good picture of my screen so I edited a picture of backlight bleeding.

My iPad shows some small spots as shown in the red circle in het picture. Please note that the spots on the right and left side of this picture are not shown on my iPad. Just the spots in het red circle. Is this backlight bleeding and is it possible to replace the iPad??

Thanks!:apple:
