Wonder why they do that. ?

I don’t know. Maybe someone on here can explain. It would seem to be much easier to advertise the exact price you pay.

Unless the tax on an individual product can vary depending on the variant, size etc etc.

Then that would understandably be a nightmare to put on a label.

Agree.

Jb hi fi hasn’t dropped the price on the previous model SE.

Thought we’d see a discount by now. ?

Ouch!!! You win. ?
And in my home country Norway, the same base model iPad Air is A$1075 (800+ USD)

Of course a lot of this has to do with VAT and sales/import taxes and such being different from country to country. Back in Norway I understand the high price because the salaries are decent in general and there are many social benefits such as free schooling and healthcare etc.

However, in Mexico… Seriously…

I think Apple would gain more market share if they lowered their prices a little bit for poorer countries… but I guess they’ve already done the maths and found that it’s not financially worth it… ?‍♂️

Wages are decent here as well, also get free healthcare & other benefits.

But DAMN cost of living is going up big times over here, groceries, petrol prices and so on.

Melbourne was ranked 5th for being the most expensive city to live in, in the world. ?

Agree.

We both know Tim  is all about them big profit margins.

That IS odd. Why wouldn’t anyone spend $40 more on the new one..?
Offfieworks had a ripping deal on the SE last year.

They were prepaid models locked on the Vodafone network for $450.

People were buying them, then paying Voda $50 to unlock the phone.

$500 for a brand new SE is a decent price.

New model is priced terribly over here.

Yeah, same in Norway dude. And the price of electricity has really gone through the roof. And it is a cold arse country… lol.

So I’m enjoying life in sunny ol’ México right now ? but yeah, prices are ricing here too. Due to government subsidies they’ve managed to keep the gas prices down, but who knows how long that’ll last…

Lucky you, autumn here now, mornings are starting to get a little cold.

Might start taking a UBER everywhere, it’ll be cheaper than driving. ?

Petrol prices will hit $3 a liter here very soon.

I’ve done for a long time now, lol. During the lockdown I even sold my car because I found out it was actually cheaper taking Ubers (also,
my car was very thirsty…)
Might be joining you soon, since my car is also very thirsty & only takes Premium Unleaded 98 Petrol.

Or might buy a donkey. ?

Total nonsense. I have dealt with all the big IT companies in the world as a customer and vendor

Apple is the best service I have ever see in any industry

They answer the call within 2 minutes. Their technical people all speak English as a first language and they all live in America. When I call they NEVER ask if I have Apple Care, they help everyone. If you need second level care they get you there pronto

No company is better
your experience is quite different than mine. I stand by my statement

I think you only get good Apple customer service when you’re living in the U.S… Down south it’s definitely not very good, and the prices are higher for Apple products here than they are in the UK, and even the Aussies pay less than the people living in the country right south of the U.S. border…
I am in the US-I would rather stick my arm in a blender than have to deal with apple employees.

No one else comes close to  customer service & support, they are miles ahead of everyone else.

I’d change my mobile, internet provider and everything else in a heartbeat, if apple ever offered them services.

No waiting on the phone, don’t have to repeat myself over and over and over again, then still end up where I started without getting anything fixed.

It appears as if we have had wildly different experiences. I despise dealing with apple employees.

Such a petty reason to be upset, and even start a thread about it.
I just immiedately toss these people on Ignore. With everything people have to deal with, getting upset over something this trivial just tells me this person isn't going to ever contribute value.

They do it because they CAN'T advertise the final price when various places charge different tax. For example, I live in a place where the sales tax is 10%. If I drive south into the next state, there's no sales tax at all. Also, the state where I live has a state sales tax but lets cities and counties add to it, so the sales tax in the county north of me is a couple of tenths of a percent different.

God, that sounds like a minefield, thanks for explaining.

So if you go into one of these cities/counties that add their own tax, you really have no idea what you’re paying until you checkout?

Not necessarily - on the Apple website and others, you will get a total listed once you add the item to your cart and put in the shipping address zip code, so not quite until you are at checkout. In brick and mortar stores, yes that is true - you will have to wait till they ring you up or just make an approximate calculation in your head based on the state sales tax. The city/county taxes are usually minimal and sub 1 percent, so they have no meaningful impact on the total price of the purchase.

I totally agree.

In terms of the customer service industry, I would probably rank Apple in my top three (Amazon and GameStop being the other two, in terms of suitable resolutions with customer feedback and actually following through with the customer to ensure the issue was rectified.

Case in point:

I remember when I purchased a stainless steel link bracelet when the Apple Watch first launched, (it was a $450 item), and it had a defect on one of the links (I sent pictures/documentation), and one of the senior advisors reached out to me to not only send me a factory new one overnighted at their cost, but didn’t even ask me to return the defective one until I received the new one to ensure it was everything I expected it to be, and never collected my debit card information for any pre-authorize charges.

Now, can anyone name any other company that would do that with a $450 watchband just based on ‘Taking the customers word for it’. I didn’t think so.:D

Overall Apples customer service is excellent. Of course there is an exceptional to everything But this is not the norm.
