I'm worried the 14th is a no-go, mostly because it seems odd that Apple would let UK stock dry up and go 11 months without updating the notebook line.

Best case scenario, I seem them coming out on the 14th.

Worst case, just a spec bump at MWSF and no redesign until Nehalem in Q1 2010 (MWSF 2010 or beyond).

Well, worst worst case, Apple gets out of the hardware business and focuses on iPhones. ;)

This is pure ****ing speculation. :)

So was the expectations of an October 14th announcement. How was that date any more valid than this speculation. Is it because you want to believe the October 14th date, but not this?

However, withholding product release due to the economic situation is not fully rational.

You're being nice. It really doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Very much so speculation, only 3-5% of Apple users know or rather care that Apple is about due for an update.

true, but...

people get informed before buying something like this, and by losing 5 minutes of their day on google, they will now that buying a macbook now is not the best choice

I hope people realise it is quite possible that they are released on the 14th, but there isn't any event.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't remember an event for when the Macbook first came out.

There was not any event when the MacBooks first came out.
So, the new MacBooks can just "magically" appear on October 14th without an event.
If there is an event, the "one more thing" at the event could be a Tablet though. ;)

If there's a drastic change in product revision with revolutionary design/ideas, that would warrant a dedicated event for such introduction. If that's so, invitation should be now on its way to major media companies and familiar affiliates.

Unfortunately, not even some Apple Employees know. On a Google for MacBook and MacBook Review, anything new MacBook wasn't even on the first page.

You aren't, there wasn't an event.

There's so much talk about the MacBook on the 14th in rumors, but what about the MBP? I almost feel worried that the MacBook will get updated first, and we have to wait for the MBP... (see the new brick manufacturing process rumor, which still says 14th for the MacBook)

I am afraid that the MacBook would be updated before the MacBook Pro and there is nothing we can do about it.

Economy

Macbook on Oct 14 makes sense, for at least a spec bump for macbooks. One can hope they're aluminum, with much better 3D capabilities than the GMA cards used currently.

I suspect MBP's will be left off. Macbook's are a lot more affordable, and right now I think a lot of would-be consumers are looking at cost, and Apple recognizes that to move the most units this holiday, they stand better chances going with new Macbooks.

I want a MBP. I'm guessing I'll be waiting at least until Macworld.. Ah well.
