Last week Overhaul Games announced that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition would be making its way to the iPad later this summer. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is a recently announced remake of the original 1998 game and Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack. The original game was well received and sold over two million copies worldwide.

The company has now announced that the game will also be available for the Mac in summer 2012 in the Mac App Store.
Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition(TM) runs on an upgraded and improved version of the Infinity Engine. It includes the entire Baldur's Gate adventure, the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack, and never before seen content including a new adventure and a new party member.
The company reports that there will be a variety of Mac OS X specific features "including widescreen and iCloud support".

Seems like a good way to spend my summer, a good old fashioned DnD campaign.

One of the best if I remember rightly.

As its 14 years old, with any luck it shouldn't be too pricey either.

I particularly like the iCloud support. In my opinion not enough cross platform Mac/iOS game developers are utilizing iCloud in their games. It would be great to keep save files synced between devices.

It only took them 14 years to port this game to the Mac. Oh, the excitement.

Anyway. It was a great game.

hmmmm

pretty sure this was released with an os9 version when it launched. Was a while ago but could have sworn.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdHvuwLPMZQ yup at least the first baulders gate confirmed with mac version. so I would call this a long awaited compatibility update or bug fix. now if blizzard would do the same for diablo 1 and 2 for iPad and WC1, 2 and 3. (3 has been having issues in lion) with iPad versions.

would be nice if they also had BG2 and ToB expansion with the tactics mods as well.

perhaps this will come if BG1+TotSC does well...

Back in the day BG1 ran fine in Classic and BG2 came with one of those 'Built For OSX' stickers on it ( I think we were still on 10.1 then). I should know - I ruined a relationship playing these games on my Flower Power iMac!

I can't wait for this upgraded release. My wife is less keen...

When I first read that, I thought you meant Wing Commander 1, 2 and 3! That that would be cool. Warcraft I wouldn't lose sleep over.

But can you imagine how much they'd make if they brought out an updated version of Diablo 1 and 2 for the iPad??? Wow!

as long as the port supports snow leopard and has decent graphics that can run on mbp 13" 2011 then im all good for it

Irony on MR?

SHOCK!!

A Video game makes the front page news! Since when on MacRumors has gaming been 'this worthy'?

Maybe at this point you could see fit to re-instating the post count for that forum section in light of this new found 'worthiness'?

;)

Tounge and Cheek mixed with a dash of truth....

Do NOT buy this from the App Store

Whatever you do, do NOT buy this game from the App Store. App store software can not be modded in any way. Doing so renders them unable to launch. Since compatibility with existing and new mods is one of the promises of this remake, an App Store version would be pointless. I hope they will give us the option of buying it elsewhere.

Agh which one do I buy, iOS or Mac? Toughest choice of 2012.

I'll go iPad. Sitting in front of a computer through countless nights with BG1 was ok back in the days. Living situation has somewhat changed though and the iPad version will give me the opportunity to throw in some BG while not chaining me to a desk.

It really sucks this won't be coming to steam. I have to buy full retail games from steam or else I don't buy them.

I do believe I've altered Star Wars :KOTOR with all the cheats.. so you're point is invalid.

That sucks. Would love to see iCloud support on iOS as well. Would be awesome to be able to seamlessly transition from the iPad to my Mac Book. Here's hoping they add iCloud to the iOS release.
