As ridiculous as this situation was, I really do not think Ballmer understood what was being said to him before the eggs started flying. I do not even think any eggs hit him. I'm just glad the guy was not wearing an Apple t-shirt.

In another thought, throwing eggs is a little over the top...Especially if you can't even hit your target. Isn't going in the room with a MacBook and iPod enough of a statement?

I was watching that video on the BBC and I thought that Ballmer came across as a smarmy arse. No wonder Microsoft are going down the tubes.

First Egg: Crowd laughed, maybe the guy was right
2nd and 3rd Egg: They tried to stop him, guy became an idiot.

As much as I dislike Microsoft, I wouldn't want the employees to be hurt or harmed... no matter how annoying they are.

It's like the Bill Gates pie thing. While some people would laugh at it, I felt sorry for the poor guy.

It just seems unnecessary. Why do we have to revert back to caveman-ish when the power of words is more effective than anything you may hurl at someone?

I've never actually heard Steve Ballmer talk b4. WOW - He has an annoying voice. I'd hate to listen to a presentation by him.

You mean… you mean… you've never seen the infamous
"Developers… developers… developers… developers… developers…developers…developers…developers…developers…developers…developers…"
video?

Oh joy. :p

Best video of the year :D

As for the "developers developers developers developers", that just classic! :p

The whole situation was messed up. Ballmer was talking through an interpreter, which is why he sounded like an idiot.

I agree with the security thing, nobody did anything, the kid just left on his own. Didn't the security think the big Microsoft slogan taped to the back of his shirt was a clue that there might be an issue here? Did anyone actually catch what was taped on his shirt?

I don't care for Microsoft, but that was a weird situation. Just goes to show when you speak in these countries, your pretty exposed. I bet you see a Microsoft Security team traveling with him in the future.

Europeans are more relaxed about things like that. Also everyone in the audience was probably pre-registered as a university student and searched and frisked before going in, so the security were pretty calm.

I attended a talk at a UK national student union conference by either Ariel Sharon or Shimon Peres (cant remember which). He had the second highest security rating in the world after Bill Clinton (who was US president at the time). The talk was only open to elected delegates from the various universities (I was one) and we were all frisked before entry.

There were protests and shoutings and walkouts every 5 minutes in his talk, but security were pretty cool, like in the Ballmer video. And Sharon/Peres was pretty cool about it too.

I think when you get to be highlevel in any area, you start respecting youthful passion, even if it's annoying, as it's better than the apathy most people have towards whatever area you're working in.
