That computers running bloated windows 7 are still a lot faster than non bloated macs.

What are you referencing this from? Faster on the same hardware? Benchmarks or User? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware? Same hardware?

Please, cut the crap.

Back to the thread title...

good....

the iPad has shown what a tablet form can do, now we need a tablet with actual useful software, not the rubbish that Apple provides.

I'd order 20 tablets tomorrow (for business) if they ran MS Office natively.

What? Why would you be so mean to your workers.

Though we are experimenting with iPads right now, we have little stands with docks in the conference rooms connected to a projector for slide shows and document viewing. There's a lot more room now and meetings seem less awkward.

Mean?

Its their request.

Any serious office work needs the real deal not the iWorks embarrasment. Even Docs to go is very limited.

like a lot of Apple products, the hardware is strangled by the mediocre software.

I'm just telling you now as a sys admin whos tried something like this before, tablet PCs and work dont mix.

I dont know why you're having a hard time accepting that PCs are faster. PCs use the latest hardware and macs don't - thats a fact.

That premise doesn't make any sense. Macs do use the latest generation of hardware, and I can still buy PCs with C2Ds, ATi HD4XXX nVidia GTX2XX series in them and Athlon X2s.

You'll have to excuse me for having a hard time swallowing an untruth, I try to think things through before posting things.

Though if you want to be literal, according to Guru3D, the latest hardware is a GSKill Phenix Pro SSD, which of course macs can use.

I think he was making a generic not literal point, which I believe is true.

If you want cutting edge tech, the last place you look is an Apple store.

MS and HP will NEVER catch Apple.

Microsoft and HP are embarking on business strategies Apple has pursued for the past three decades, and they’re doing it with product lines that are years behind the times. Product lines that are essentially, garbage.

Tell me: If Microsoft and HP are focused so much on copying the Apple of today, how can they possibly compete with the Apple of 3-5 years from now?

Something RADICAL has to happen at either MS or HP, or both. And soon. Doesn't look like it, though. More of the same-old-same-old from both of these old and tired tech dinosaurs.

It's funny that with an embarrassing reception issue, easy-to-shatter 'gorilla glass' of the iPhone; yellow tint for the 27" iMacs and so on, you still stick to the point that Apple is superior and MS (with all the other companies associated with them) are garbage. Wouldn't that view be a little bit simplistic?

Windows 7 is approaching its 200 million sales figure and is getting very good reception.

Totally agree. PC hardware are faster than most Macs. BUT, OS X makes it seem that Macs run faster, smoother and cooler as compared to Windows 7 PCs.
I have both and I use both. I just feel that Macs are faster.

Having owned PCs for more than 15 years, I can say that a similarly configured Mac is faster. Of course someone could always find a CPU option that isn't available on the Mac, thus increasing the speed of a PC. Having said that, who cares? The thread was about Microsoft and their strategy in the tablet space (or the non existence of a strategy).

Microsoft has never managed to innovate. They always follow others. Most of the times Microsoft succeeds in creating sth that works better than the original, but sometimes that doesn't work at all...Microsoft is showing the world again that they are unable to understand technology.

-----What makes you think it will be big and bloated? Windows is the way it is because it has to support all kinds of legacy hardware and maintain backwards compatibility. A slate would have no such requirements. Lets say MS can get a version of windows 7 to work well on a thin and fast slate? What if MS has a touch optimized version of office? A special version of its DX development tools so games could be ported over easily? Thats a pretty compelling device that can actually replace a desktop or laptop, something the ipad cant do.-----

Again. These are all BIG WHAT IFs... MS had 10 years of development for tablet pcs. End result basically is a foldable laptop with Windows OS. Nothing better.
Now comes, the iPad. Apple didn't force OS X, they used a different OS, iphone OS and it worked. Always on, Always connected. I agree with the limited function as compared to laptops/desktops. But, the foundation is already laid out. Upgrades, updates and add-ons will be easier to do for the coming generations.

Fact is, MS does not have anything right now. Apple has the iPad. MS will release "something better" (though a lot of analysts doubt it), Apple will be releasing iPad 2. It is a cycle that lately, the one who releases a functioning product (not just prototypes, demos, etc) in the market is on top.

thats probably your wallet thinking...

'crikey I've paid so much for this so I need to think it's quicker' ;)

This confirms my suspicions that the MacBU will never be allowed to bring Office to the iPad. So at least OpenOffice should make an iPad app.

What's stopping you? OpenOffice is an open project. You can take part, if you really want to.

i don't disagree with much of what you said, but let's face it, both HP and M$ are very well financed companies and have shown in the past that while they may not be very innovative, or creative, they certainly know how to copy something, make it crappy and sell billions of them.

I don't know if they will do it again, but I'm not betting they won't. I'm not so sure M$ will go down that easy...

As a owner of a Zune HD, Microsoft can make some seriously solid products. Problem is there is a stink in the air that has made everyone believe [a lot of this comes from Vista I think] Microsoft sucks and can never make anything good.

Apple fans and Microsoft fans should BOTH want them to make a good tablet. Why? Because competition pushes innovation on both companies to compete with one another.

Competition is good for the consumers no matter who's side you are on.

Absolutely. I wan't MS to actually get some vision and understand that a desktop OS on a small touch slate doesn't make sense.

Then they can get on building a proper WinCE7 touch slate OS and new touch based applications. Only then will they be in the game.

Tablet PC is nothing new to Microsoft. They have develop on this idea for quite sometimes already. They started this idea when Apple not even come out with iPhone. Unfortunately, Apple make this idea famous. Too bad isn't it?

Steve Ballmer = Epic Fail

How can buy 'innovation' from someone says who's wearing a v-neck sweater and pleated pants?
