If Apple really had a problem with it, they'd block it from their machines. Since this increases interest and use of the machines, they're not gonna do it.

They've blocked MySpace, but not Facebook. I suppose it's because they have a (relatively) good relationship with Facebook, what with the web app on their commercials and all.

There are three stores in my area, two are in suburbia with suburban high school girls obnoxiously using PhotoBooth before realising MySpace is blocked, and the third is in the center of town in a high end shopping district, but it is always jammed with about two or three hundred people in it and too few employees to service them all.

I saw the manager checking out the store yesterday, and I said to the person I was with, pretending I didn't know the manager was there, that I can never find a mac specialist to talk to.

Oh, and the other thing about these obnoxious girls is that I go to school with a lot of them, and obviously friends with them on Facebook, and their profile photos they took always look so tacky because you can clearly see they took they photos in an Apple store.

Well I tell you what BlakTornado, why don't you take the trouble to go down there and see for yourself rather than poking fun at those of us sad gits who actually went there to buy stuff?

Why don't you go on a Saturday? Have fun!

thats right, apple has something like a 10% share in facebook too because their system is run upon a mac server, and they use macs all over the place... watch one of their keynotes, its just like a macworld keynote, but all about facebook.

(i should mention also microsoft has a 1.5% share in facebook....... *hiss*)

They blocked Bebo in their stores, too... GOOD!

I take it people don't like the regent street store...

I was meant to be going there last September to buy my iMac but I just bought online. Long story short, it sounds like I'm lucky to NOT have gone :|

Well, the guys there aren't that bad... It's just of you just want to look at a Mac thats the problem!!

If you think Regent Street is bad, wait till you see the Bentall Centre Apple Store. Always full of loud chavs using Photo Booth and playing music.

Also, when in the Regent Street Store, the thing that annoys me the most is when people tear open iPod/iPhone case boxes to try them out, then shove them back into the boxes the wrong way, before hanging the box up in completely the wrong place!

I know that Apple advertises on Facebook and I'm sure Facebook uses Macs internally but I highly doubt Apple owns a 10% stake in Facebook, especially when Microsoft fought hard to get 1.5%.

i have no idea whether thats true or not, i just heard it in conversation with my uncle. However it does seem likely :apple: has a large share in facebook.

I'm going to say it isn't true cause I don't think Apple has any stake in Facebook. Other than the venture capitalists who have put in money, Microsoft is the only large corporation to have a small stake in Facebook.

The weirdest thing I've ever seen... was a bunch of 16 year old kids... carrying their guitars on their back walking around the store. Now, this store is most certainly not within walking distance of any venues, or any residential areas... so I'm pretty sure they actually made the effort to drive to the mall, and put their guitars and what not on their backs, and walk into the apple store.

How utterly stupid.

When my mom got her imac she wanted to look at a Mini, and there was a guy just listening to music on the only one in the store. I did find it quit annoying and felt bad for my mom. We looked around and was there for about a hour and the whole time we were there this guy was still on the Mini just listening to music. She got an imac and I told her she'll be happy with that.
Sorry, I found this rude and if you're not buying something you should be nice and move over for people who are buying or looking to buy.

I went for an interview at an Apple Store once, and they told me they want to make the computers open for everybody to use just like your home computer. It's a lot better than the PC store system where every machine is password protected and some moron stands over your shoulder when you try it out.

Also, Apple has more to sell than just the hardware - they have to sell the hardware + software combo. That requires the ability to test it.

Locking facebook is a good move. People should be able to test it and use it like their own computer, but there are reasonable limits.

The Apple store near me has ALL their computers locked out from anyone to use. If you want to test one out you need to speak to a genius so they can log in for you and show you all the cool features of OS X and maybe sell you a computer.

You can still check out the web from an ipod touch set up but it is very slow to load pages.

That sucks, they do that in John Lewis, too. I used to know the password but they changed it (it was "mess" if anyone wants to see if it still works in there local John Lewis).

In some ways I could see how its good to keep their store full, most consumers crave something that everyone else does, they see a store full of people and wonder what they are missing out on.

In other ways they should keep a section open just for the genius's to show you the computers/features if you are serious about buying.

Lets also not forget that kid's parents buy them everything under the sun these days so it could lead to some sales later down the line.
