As I've mentioned elsewhere in the forum, I just wouldn't bother wasting any energy fretting over it, it's exactly the same as the Fitbit HealthKit debacle, if you care enough to change banks then just do it now as their silence indicates their commitment to the path you don't want.

My anger is with how ignorant and naive they could be. Clearly nobody at Barclays thought this terrible business decision through. Blocking something as huge as Apple Pay was always going to be a terrible decision. Somebody at Barclays has no idea what they're doing.

I can't imagine anything being easier than the Oyster card. Cheap enough so it doesn't matter if you lose it, no worry about scratching/damaging it pressing it against the reader. No way I'd put my £700 phone near a reader (without a case at least).

Wow. I'm in canada and not even one bank support it yet. It's taking too long.
I have heard that at least TD will begin Apple Pay in the Fall. Then again it was rumoured that TD was suppose to have started to use Apple Pay in the Spring. Go figure.

Getting seriously angry at Barclays...they need to say something soon. It's totally pathetic if they just remain quiet even after the official launch comes and goes. They've just released their totally pointless 'bPay' rubbish which can never hope to be as widespread as Apple Pay. Even if they're trying to give consumers choices, they shouldn't be blocking Apple Pay. That's the opposite of consumer choice. If they can't get off their greedy a**es and start supporting Apple Pay, I (and many others) will be finding a new bank.

While I agree with you that Barclays Bank need to get their act together the bPay initiative has nothing to do with Barclays and is a Barclaycard payment solution. Barclaycard is run as a complete separate organisation and I don't think the bPay thing would have any affect on whether Barclays Bank PLC will take up ApplePay.

I read that it's mostly about the fact that if they supported Apple Pay, they'd be admitting defeat on their services such as Pingit. But going head to head with the largest and most valuable technology company in the world is a fight they cannot win.

I'll be interested to see if this ultimately slows things down at the Underground. People tear through those barriers because it usually only takes a tap of an Oyster card or a contactless card. Having to use TouchID will surely slow things down at the barriers? Unless Apple have some sort of agreement meaning TouchID isn't required in the underground and the transaction just requires the phone to be in proximity.

Didn't work for me. Got this text from Santander a few mins after trying:

We've not been able to complete your Apple Pay registration on your iPhone for your card ending XXXX. Please call us on 0800 068 6698 to check your card.

Apple Pay in the United Kingdom has yet to officially launch, but some banks are preparing for the upcoming release of the payments service and have begun allowing customers to register their cards for use with Apple Pay.

Several Santander customers on the MacRumors forums have been able to successfully add their cards to Passbook for use with Apple Pay, making the cards available on both their iPhones and their Apple Watches.

Customers registering their cards are also receiving confirmation emails from Santander, informing them that they're now able to use Apple Pay. As of the time of writing, customers have not yet tested the Apple Pay service at a location that accepts Apple Pay. One customer was told the bank's system is not live and that customers who were able to mistakenly register early would be de-registered, so it is not clear if the registered cards will be able to be used to make purchases.

Activating a Santander card with Apple Pay at this time requires U.K. users to set their region to U.S., add a card, and change their region back to U.K., at which point the card remains available in Passbook. It's clearly a workaround, but a sign that banks are preparing to accept Apple Pay in the near future.

Other banks, like MBNA and Nationwide, are giving error messages like "Contact Card Issuer" and "Your Issuer Does Not Yet Offer Support."

It is not clear exactly when Apple Pay will become officially available in the United Kingdom, but during its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple said the payments service would launch in July. Recently released employee training documents have suggested the launch could come next week, on Tuesday, July 14. 250,000 merchants are expected to support Apple Pay in the U.K. when it is released.

Natwest have confirmed they are supporting Apple Pay and even have a Communities page dedicated to it. Good stuff.

Really looking forward to using Apple Watch for Tube/Bus Oyster journeys and daily lunch purchases.
Shame there is nothing on their main page though and instead I had to go hunting for information. I am just really happy to be banking with Natwest who though do not song and dance like they should on these features do lead the way in innovative ways to bank and access my money.

The last report I read about Apple Pay in the UK mentioned there would be a limit (like GBP200) per transaction.

While I understand UK banks want to take it slow (or some other justification), I don't like how this "fragments" the rollout/features of Apple Pay on a global scale. If true, I hope the UK implementation of Apple Pay removes the spending limit soon to keep feature parity with the "full" American version.

Its not Apple Pay that has the limit (currently £20, £30 from September), it is contactless payments in general in the UK. They will be rolling out updates to contactless terminals in the UK, to remove the limit when there is a second factor of authentication like Touch ID but its going to take some time.

The limit in lots of places will be £20 at launch because that's the current limit for contactless cards which are widely used. That limit is rising the £30 in ?September. Vendors can remove the limit completely if the want if they've got kit that allows them to.

(or what flipsot said :))

Thanks for the info. I was a bit off but it's good to know that Apple isn't intentionally crippling it and the banks aren't singling out Apple Pay. It's actually pretty smart from a security standpoint and I hope it works well for them.

NatWest are really great when it comes to iOS and general internet stuff. Their app is great, they're first to support Apple Pay, Touch ID, etc., and their online banking website could be much worse (judging from other banks I've used)

P.S. does anyone know if Lloyds International (offshore, IoM) will support Apple Pay when Lloyds does later this year?

A regular contactless debit or credit card is easier. It doesn't need topping up, and fares cost exactly the same as with Oyster. If you have a contactless card, there's no need to have an Oyester card. Unless you're a foreign visitor whose card isn't supported at the barriers.

Have the soulless ghouls at Barclays caved in yet?

Heh - I actually contacted the Barclays mobile support team and asked about Apple Pay support a few days ago. (Their mobile banking app is really very good). Anyhow - their response is below. It's possible that this support rep doesn't really have any insight into the situation, but you never know!

"Dear Mr xxxxx,

Thank you for your email dated 2/7/15.

We are in talk with Apple to incorporate the Apple Pay service within our App to enable our customers to take optimum advantage of the feature.

As soon as an agreement is reached the feature will be incorporated into the Barclays services.

I hope this helps.

Do the people at Barclays really think I would put a sticker on my iPhone or wear their ugly wristband? And a keyring????? how does fiddling with a keyring speed up things in a very unsafe manner?

Yesterday I was getting a new credit card from Bank of Montreal (BMO Bank) here in Toronto and I drilled the teller to give me all the info on "Apple Pay Canada". She said its being tested, and that BMO Bank is going to have Apple Pay in Canada near the end of November!

As much as I (and I'm sure many others) would love to see Apple Pay launch in Canada, I'm not sure a bank teller has inside info on what's happening.
