This might be a foolish question, but how does someone go about getting banned of macrumors? I've seen a few people get banned and i wanted to know what does one do to get banned.

Violation of forum rules. The exact reason a specific member gets banned is between the member and the mods, but it's sometimes obvious from their posts what happened (although often some of the final posts are deleted).

Mods ban people for great reasons. It's the reason the process is so transparent - their reasons are always beyond reproach!

Do those people who were banned get some prior warning before they are banned?

Often people will get a 'mini ban' for a few days to cool off, if they carry on with their bad behaviour when the ban is lifted then they get a permanent ban. Of course, people can (and have been, I'm sure) banned permanently for serious offences straight away.
As for coming back under a new alias I believe doing such a thing breaks forum rules so you're liable to get rebanned if you're found out.

No, not if you're polite and open-minded in your discussions. Unfortunately Mac v PC threads are more likely degenerate into a name-calling, personal insult-flying, trolling melee so banning, temporary or otherwise, is more likely too.
That isn't entirely true. Unless your definition and my definition of mess are that different, but then again I wouldn't doubt that they are.
Theres an even more special court the have to plead there case in, normally surrounded by fire, pitchforks, little fire guys with pitchforks etc.
