Yep that's absolutely true I was actually banned because I am gay. One of them sent me an email to tell me I was banned and when I pursued the matter I was told because "... we don't want poofters in our group.." Ah well probably for the best considering.

Didn't you see the rules:

Rule 3: No Poofters!

(obscure Monty Python reference, Adelaide University Philsophy department rules, see also rule 1, 5 and 7)

Or it could possibly be for completely unrelated reasons, I've confirmed with mactalk mods that they have no such homophobic policies and that everyone is welcome, apparently you were banned for altogether different reasons related to this thread:

http://forums.mactalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=14032

Grow up and let the past be the past, your you, people are people why continue to smear them even if they were in the wrong, they're totally accepting of me and my sexuality so the fact that they'd have a problem with yours is highly doubtful.
Now that is some interesting reading in there.

Is that really enforced though? I can think of at least one person who was banned and then reregistered. You can tell its the same person because the avatar is a picture of himself, and the writing style is identical.

I can assure you that three people re-registered and were banned, as soon as it was known.

If you know of someone who re-registered, report them. It's a lot of work to keep track of the forums and notice one person out of hundreds and thousands.

Good thing MacRumors isn't like Mactalk Australia I got banned because I'm gay!

Still flogging the dead horse?

AppleTalk/MacTalk never has, and never will ban anyone for being gay. We will, however, ban freaky people who make up stories about us on other forums.

Sorry to hijack the thread, macrumors. :)

Soon we'll have the whole membership of MacTalk Australia joining MacRumors, just because of one incident. :D What an interesting way to recruit new members. Now, if we could get them to join our folding@home team...

Oh no....
<chanting> We need new products announcement. We need new products announcement. We need new products announcement. We need new products announcement.</chanting>

I think there are plenty of MTAU people who're also MacRumors members :). Forums pointed at different areas of the Mac community, and both pretty decent.

The more the merrier I say, As long as they don't just post once and take up space.:)

WOW!!! I just spent the last two hours reading this thread and the other threads that they referenced. Two hours of my life that I'll never get back. But it's the best thing since The West Wing went off the air! Especially good were the the parts about macpastor and dndcomputers - although a bit scary, really. In a nutshell, some people don't have to try to hard to get banned, it seems. This thread in itself deserves the Contribution to the forum!!! Is there any other way except through paypal?

Enjoying the forum - keep up the good work. :D

Glad that you remembered that apostrophe or this wouldn't be so decent. ;)

Still, if they don't have their own folding@home team, it would be nice to have new people on ours.

Seconded on the 'wasting two hours of my life' part. I did enjoy it but it's definitely been a burn when I should be studying for finals. What a weird little rabbit hole this thread has been though.

I did learn that posting about hacks is a no-no though, so that's always good to know. Wonder what forums there are to find out about stuff like the Front Row thing which got the deanwaterman guy banned in the first place...which is to say, be in the know without actually doing the illegal.

In any case it's interesting to note how self-policing MR is. And now time for a very sleepy boy to study some more and get away from the computer.

Glad to see you're still using MacRumors as a resource for "original" information for your forum.

Actually freaky wasn't the word Currawong used, after publishing my IP address on AppleTalk (I wonder why the name change) the word he used was "poofter".

But thanks for your constant worthwhile contributions to this forum guys (still newbies I see), now run along and play.... :D

Here's an example of Currawong's comments on AppleTalk after I was banned, kind of speaks for itself really.

First of all this thread has taken a not so good turn, Second that post seems to be taken out of context with no mention of who it is referring. Maybe its about you maybe not, there isn't much to go on.

Yes of course I'm lying. and they're the innocent party.

Here's a bit more on that thread. I don't care much for homophobic red necks...

Well this thread has been hijacked enough. Time to move on...

Im not saying who's right or wrong here, but there seems to be a lot of unanswered questions. Those links posted above do give some compelling evidence.
