Believe me I’m not a student. I moved to Santander because they pay 3% on balances up to £20k. That alone beats mobile phone cover etc which I get from other financial institutes for free anyway.

The £5 fee is not great though. If you can benefit from direct debit cashback then it is good but otherwise there are better places just for interest, though none which offer on up to £20k in a single account.

Tried to use Apple Pay for the first time a few days ago. It was so damn fiddly I gave up after a few unsuccessful attempts and used my contactless debit card instead. I won't be bothering with Apple Pay again.

What did you find fiddly about it?
[doublepost=1453864064][/doublepost]33,402 Barclays accounts were switched from Barclays to another provider in the period 1 April 2015 - 30 June 2015 using the Current Account Switch Service. It will be interesting to see the figures for the following quarter to see if that changes much. They were the second biggest loser after HSBC. Santander gained 84,497 accounts! Barclays gained a paltry 6,286. There was a total of 262,765 switches in that quarter.

What happened to put you off?

I can’t believe you just didn’t report your card lost.

Actually I didn't realise that banks have their own individual criteria for issuing contactless cards. This is because a contactless payment (not through Apple Pay but tapping the card) doesn't require a pre-authorisation. Therefore, in theory, any user could rack up 3x £30 transactions a day without the bank knowing about it. It then could potentially put you over your agreed limits.

I read about this first in the Telegraph but have googled it and it seems to be the case. It also seems to be stricter with some banks but not all.

Could be they are trying to double tab the home button to get the card up on the iPhone. It never seems to work when you have someone standing in front of you awaiting payment, and the touch ID just unlocks the phone. I naively thought that was what you had to do for a couple of days before realising you just place the iPhone near the reader with the phone locked 'off' and it will automatically detect.

Yeah it seems the double tap thing has issues both ways. I find myself activating it accidentally, when I simply meant to press the home button once.

That said, it's not too bad activating it. Just going straight into the double press (on a locked, screen off iPhone) works okay for me - key is to not press once to wake the phone up, just instant double press.

And yeah, holding the iPhone to the reader works too. Sometimes it's handy to "pre-authorise" on the double tap before you get to the terminal.

Weird. I find it easy and use it everywhere - easier than opening up my wallet to find my debit card, in fact!

Now THIS is useful! Touch ID is a fantastic product from Apple.

I love it! Works all the time and (sometime a bit jittery with damp hands after exercising), but it saves having to type in long passwords and pass codes all the time.

Yep, ones that are all different from each other because all their systems have different restrictions. GRRRR.

Hope will there 3/4 weeks. Not delay later.
Just switch bank, they're just taking time...in the meantime you could probably get much better interest rates from another bank and use Apple Pay in a couple of weeks ;)

(The switch was smooth and I'm loving Apple Pay. Not finding it fiddly at all. But that of course is just my experience)

Getting pretty close to the acclimated date now. I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed and they hadn't told us.

Well, it's just ticked over to the 28th... And we still don't have it... :(
[doublepost=1459118276][/doublepost]Sorry for double post...

However I just tried to add the card, and the behaviour is different on a Barclays Debit card compared to that of a Barclaycard or Coop Bank debit card.

The Barclays Debit card actually "goes through" in terms of you get to a Terms and Conditions page that has Accept/ Do Not Accept, and the terms and conditions are "Your issuer does not yet offer support for this card".

If you click accept it kind of goes to add it, but then says: "speak to your bank" and asks if you want to try again.

Whereas the Barclaycard / Coop just declines to work full stop and you get the Wallet telling you that it isn't supported.

Perhaps this is an indication of an imminent switch on?

They just have to flick the final switch!?

I've added screenshots (sorry they are in Spanish, that's what my phone is set in haha):

First two are the Barclays Debit Card

(Card not added, contact bank, add later, retry)
The final one is the Coop Debit Card:

(this card is still not compatible, more info, or nothing)

Asked Barclays for status this a.m. via chat: (tldr: still finalizing, launch in coming months. What a crap bank.)

Bob 09:21:37
Really thinking about moving my business from your firm over endless wait for ApplePay. Your VP promised got 27th but there is no announcement today. What is status? Shall we just start the process of moving accounts?
Nikhil Sethi 09:22:12
Welcome to Barclays Webchat Service. I can see you query, will certainly help you further.
Nikhil Sethi 09:22:19
Hello Bob.
Nikhil Sethi 09:22:36
I apologise for the inconvenience.
Bob 09:23:19
Hello Nikhil, Have you any update?
Nikhil Sethi 09:23:19
You will be glad to know that we are in the final stage of development and Apple Pay is expected to go live with Barclays in the next couple of months.
Bob 09:23:55
Well, then, more delays, that's good enough for me.
Nikhil Sethi 09:24:55
Bob, if you are not happy you may also raise a Complaint about it.
Bob 09:25:22
Although it means a lot of work for me and my staff, I'm going to stop trying to prevent my clients from leaving Barclays.
Bob 09:25:58
Not worth the effort to complain or wait further.
Nikhil Sethi 09:26:08
I understand and I apologise for the inconvenience you have faced due to this.
Bob 09:27:07
These continued delays only hurt my relationship to my customers.
Nikhil Sethi 09:27:32
I can imagine how difficult that can be.
Nikhil Sethi 09:27:52
Is there anything else I can help you with?
Bob 09:28:40
Why does Barclays have a VP indicating ApplePay would go live between 21amp27 Mar if this was not to be the case?
Nikhil Sethi 09:29:17
Bob, I am afraid we do not have any related information about it.
Bob 09:30:37
Well, these last words from us, we feel the way your organization has fumbled this topic on both the project management side as well as PR side has been anything but professional or confidence inspiring.
Bob 09:31:19
I trust you know it's nothing against you personally.
Nikhil Sethi 09:31:44
I understand, Bob.
Nikhil Sethi 09:32:20
I apologise for the inconvenience.
Bob 09:34:05
I'm directing my wrath toward Mr. Ashok Vaswani, VP of personal and corporate banking since Jan, he has made numerous public promises and now these have been proven hollow, if not outright lies.
Bob 09:36:26
I don't know if B has held up ApplePay to give the bPay experiment breathing room, but let me tell you, bPay is so outmoded.
Nikhil Sethi 09:37:05
You may raise a Complaint about it, Bob. I apologise for the inconvenience.
Bob 09:37:35
Well, I'm on holiday, and have neither time nor patience for the continued tomfoolery of this topic.
Nikhil Sethi 09:38:01
I definitely know that it could be frustrating. I can understand how you feel.
Bob 09:38:02
By by the way, I feel like I'm talking to a bot.
Bob 09:38:29
Bot or not, thanks and goodbye.
Nikhil Sethi 09:38:42
No, you are chatting with a Human.
Nikhil Sethi 09:39:14
Thank you for using the Barclays Web Chat Service.

I do think Bob had the conversation going on for too long but I'll not have a go at him for wanting to move. His bank is holding and managing his money, they are doing this for security and convenience. If either one or both of these are no longer the case then he has the right to change banks. If Apple Pay is more convenient for him then who's to say he's wrong for wanting to leave?

Couple of months?? More delay. First it early 2016 then early spring and now couple of months. Barclays usually really good except Apple Pay. They so slow.
