How popular do you think it would be if Apple made a Macbook (or something with a different name) that was more of the bare bones and designed to compete with the existing $400-650 laptops?

It would throw Apple into the fray of racing to the bottom along with other manufacturers already offering notebooks in that range. They are doing very extremely well right now. No reason to whore yourself out to the lowest bidder tossing their rent money when the high rollers gladly pay top dollar for a bit of luxury and class (yes, for this example i'm equating the macbook/pro to a high end new york escort service. deal with it.) .

Yeah I wasn't sure if it would be a good financial decision myself; a lot of times when a higher end company makes a lower end product, people tend to discredit it and then discredit the company that makes it. You see it in electronics quite frequently.
