For those of you rocking your Airs without cases or screen protectors, how are they holding up? Scratches, dings, dents, etc?
Out of anger, I threw my phone on the wood floor with force. Absolutely no damage! I can’t even find a scratch. I’ve also accidentally slammed it into a metal turnstile while I was walking through it. This has been the most durable iPhone I’ve ever owned! I’ve cracked many of my iphone pro’s with much less. I’m wondering if I even need AppleCare on the iPhone air anymore

No phone is completely scratch-proof if it’s dropped, so going caseless means you’ll need to handle it very carefully.

And oleophobic coating. That’s the main reason I don’t use a screen protector—there doesn’t seem to be one that prevents oils and fingerprints better than the factory coating. If it ever wears off, I’ll consider getting a protector just for the coating.
The ESR Armorite protector has been lights out in terms of preventing oil and crude build up for me versus the cheap glass protectors. Worth the price

For me, I haven't found a screen protector that I like. They typically add sharp edges that I feel when I'm swiping up from the bottom of the phone to unlock and they also add a surprising amount of weight. This year I'm going with no screen protector, so far so good. No scratches yet. I'm mainly worried about the original oleophobic coating wearing off but I'll likely upgrade to the Air 2 if/when it comes out.

Bought X used with no screen protector, used it for like 3 years without screen protector, didn't think twice about oleophobic coating or any of that the phone just worked perfect. I do not get the obsession in trying to protect that precious coating safe to say lol

If you like interacting with screen protector, you can just install it after the coating is worn off completely and there would be no difference between that and a new phone for you. No need to replace the phone.

Thank you for this thread and all the input.
I am also considering the Air as a replacement for my XR. Sadly, no more red phones.
Also, I don't feel the need to have a case. But I'd like something to "even out" the camera bump on the back so that it can be laid on the table and type on it without wobbling.

I tried to find this online but it doesn't seem to be available?

I have officially scuffed my black Air and am reminded why I always went with white previously. C'est la vie, it ain't that serious.

Even though I have AppleCare on my devices, I can't seem to go naked on any of my devices.
Smart because Applecare is not a replacement for a case like some people seem to think. Apple is not going to replace your phone for scratches or body damage due to a fall. Only a cracked screen.

not worth it just for apple care. i use case outside the house for my other device and no case at home. seems to work well for me

however air is what i use caseless all the time. i never use it outside of desk at work anyway so it's not often in danger

Dropped twice on tile floors, zero damage. I do have some teeny tiny chips on the edge of the camera plateau (from going caseless) that I cannot see, but can slightly feel when my hand grazes it. Still looks new otherwise! Surprisingly durable phone.

My buddy’s 17PM looks beat to absolute hell in comparison.

Day 1 Air owner (white version), caseless, although I do have a privacy screen protector on it. I've dropped it probably 3-4 times - just have 1 tiny scuff on one of the titanium corners that you can barely see.

I've cracked the screen protector 3 times already lol (privacy tempered glass) though - agree with @Gregintosh that screen protectors (especially tempered glass ones) are more fragile than the regular glass (especially on the latest iPhones). And are often a waste. For me, I only get them to have the Privacy filter on it, and they're cheap enough (3 for $12 on Amazon), I'm ok that I have to replace them more often than if I didn't have one on at all.

I’m usually a pretty calm guy, but I had a moment today.

My friend had to put her dog down and the whole situation had me down in the dumps. I was desperately trying to attach a photo in iMessage and iOS 26 simply refused. I spent literal *minutes* trying to get it to attach.

I ended up throwing it down the hallway in frustration, totally caseless. Bounced off the metal separator between wood/carpet flooring, hit a wall, landed face down on the hard floor.

Not. A. Scratch. I’m pretty thankful for this phone’s durability because I was already feeling pretty down, and a self-made broken phone would have made it even worse.

I also use my phones (now an Air) without screen protectors to avoid damaging the initial oleophobic coating. After two years, it usually wears out... and then (if I don't change my phone) I apply a screen protector... which restores the initial feel and limits fingerprints. However, over the years, screen protectors have improved considerably, especially in terms of dust-free/bubble-free application.
