That's a steal if you can find the tray with dual X5690 CPUs for $800. Many people require the old tray back on trade, and I would assume at $800 this is what they want, make sure you read the ad fully to figure out if that's what they are expecting.

Picked up a dual cpu tray for $400 but the seller said 1 of the Fan is running a high speed. Any suggestion to resolve this?

You might be sorry you got it. There was a system modder who posted on Netkas board a year or so ago. He had created that symptom on 2 or 3 trays and was pulling hair out trying to fix. It seemed like some sort of electrical damage. I don't think he ever posted an outcome. You may have to jam a pencil in it.

^^^^This question has been asked many times. The answer is no. It's a firmware issue IIRC. If they were, CPU upgrades would be a hellofalot easier.

Crap, so not a simple heatsink or motherboard swap to fix the fan issue?

If both fans were on high speed it might just have been an issue with the chip install, but I've never heard of just 1 fan running at high speed. My guess is that something on the board got fried or the second fan it's self is malfunctioning.

If you have a way to test the second fan I'd suggest that over buying a fan since that may not even be the problem and it could put you further into the $$$ hole.

Try to return it because at $400 it was definitely not worth i. These boards are not cheap and its a risk to buy one with issues. It Sounds like all your hard work to save some cash just went out the window if you cant fix this, return it or sell it for what you paid.

I'll tinker with it when I receive it. I thought it was related to the heat sink not properly mounted to the CPU or that the retanting screw not tighten properly or maybe just a thermal paste issue.

Saw some guy selling a dual cpu tray for $550 thinking on jumping on that if I can't fix this one and sell the broken at the price I paid for.

It would be worth having a dig at Netkas for the posts. Might be the same guy, would show what has been tried already.
