Says who?

People do video editing on the iPad Pro which has the same chip.
The iPad Pro is unlikely to be their sole and main editing device. And who said anything about chip? The issue is storage.

You don’t think these people will use the base M2 MBA as a side machine next to their 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro for example?

The MaxTech video will be interesting
I can't wait to see what their headline/title is for it...

Apple should be pointing this out on the site in the configurator, regardless of whether or not people buying this base model will actually notice the slower speed (I suspect 99% of buyers will neither notice, nor care).

All this bitching and moaning. Why put up with it, go somewhere else (non-Apple) and enjoy your lives. Or you can pay for a higher spec machine :) Just vote with your wallets folks.

Personally don't think so. Even if they do, speed is not really the main factor when they choose to travel with that MBA.

It is a base model Air.

A base model.

Air.

What you gonna do with it?

Render Toy Story 10?

Use it as a high capacity high speed quantum universe time travel data center?
How about the base model shouldn't be any slower than its base-model m1 predecessor... but yet it is.

Honest question here. If the benchmarks are slower, but the rest of the improvements in the SOC result in faster performance (example: video editing finishes faster), is this going to still be a 300 page bitchfest of a thread?

Let’s see the machines being USED, not running one test in one component that isolates the fact that this is an SOC.

I'm an academic who preordered the 16/256. For coding tasks /working with data, would having the 512 SSD be more important to speed than the 16gb? I use cloud so don't actually need more storage.

Also planning to keep computer for a long time.

Is it? In what regard? Do we have any videos of the thing actually being used for tasks or is it all isolated benchmarks?

To use an analogy, if the “engine” of this car is technically slower, but a new version of the transmission results in it still going 0-60 faster…is that a problem?

Hahaha. Where are the deniers now who claimed the MacBook Air might not use single NAND? It’s obvious, Apple is about cost cutting and up selling.

How much is this likely to impact real-world usage for most people? (Genuinely asking here)
it will take 5 min to load Safari, 10 min to load Chrome ... people here are so obsessed with these stupid benchmarks and totally ignore the average user's experience ...

Since your data is in the cloud are you compiling locally or in the cloud? If so then speed won't make a ton of difference. Locally, 2 NANDS should be faster than single - but by how much? We'll have to wait for the comparison videos that should be coming soon.

It's stunning to me how worked up some get over this topic. If the product doesn't meet your needs, move on and buy something else. Class action lawsuit, really? Oh my.

For sure on that. Sadly, it's the only way some people can get through their day. Intense outrage and feeling aggrieved at the drop of a hat on the internet in order to feel good is now normalized.

No longer do people feel embarrassed acting out on a public forum. Instead, it's now a badge of honor.
