What is the difference in a DVI vs a HDMI cable? I know it's a basic question but I bought my son a Mini for Christmas and his little Samsung monitor just has a DVI hookup. Should I buy a new monitor with a HDMI? They are reasonably priced when you figure in I may have to purchase an adapter for the DVI.

    Thanks for the Help!

Both are digital, but HDMI is more geared towards entertainment, as it also transports audio. DVI is more meant for computer monitors.
But as there are a of of adapters, you can just get a Mini DisplayPort (MDP) to DVI adapter.

The Mac Mini ships with a HDMI->DVI adapter. You will still need a DVI cable, but if the monitor only has a DVI input you probably have one already.
