I played the demo of this on my Xbox and was unimpressed... is the demo just a poor representation of the game? Has anyone played both and could comment?

If you haven't played this game yet, buy it. It's a great game. I'm not even a Batman or comic book fan, per se. I just really thought the level of immersion, realization of the Batman mythos, and sound gameplay mechanics made it a stand out title.

re: Boot Camp

(Sigh) Yeah, there's obviously Boot Camp as a solution... but just like people predicted/feared when it was first offered for the Mac, it only helps ensure Mac gaming never gets any real traction.

I have Boot Camp set up on my Mac just for gaming purposes, but to be honest? I very rarely boot into it, because #1, it involves keeping up with two operating systems instead of just one. I'm constantly having to download Windows update patches, the latest anti-virus signatures for the AV software running on it, and any misc. updates for things like Adobe Acrobat Reader I've got on the Windows partition. It just makes for a lot of extra wasted time. And #2, it's inconvenient. If I'm booted to the Windows side of things, I'm shut out of all my Mac applications until I go through the whole shutdown/reboot process again, back into OS X. As I've gotten older, I've become much more of the "casual gamer" in the sense that I'm not gaming for hours straight at some LAN party I lugged my machine to for the purpose. Rather, I've got a little time to kill or want to relax in the evening, so I fire up a game until I get interrupted and need to look up some transactions in iBank, or refer to/print out something I received in my email earlier that day, or ??

It's so much nicer playing a native game in OS X so I can just put it in the background or even quit it for a minute, do something else, and go right back to it. I find myself playing a LOT of Team Fortress 2 for this reason.

If you want to do any kind of gaming boot amp is a better route.

Or just by the cheaper PC version (it's a 2 year old game anyway, look for it on Steam) and run it on Boot Camp...

Bought it on steam awhile ago and played on the mac using bootcamp.

Heh... Mac users complaining about price....

Mac users are not blind.

Mac users are willing to pay for quality (Apple products), but also don't want to pay for something that's overpriced (aka same game can be bought on steam and played on Mac for lower price).

Well said.

Got this game, works perfectly on my GTS 450 1GB OC'd.. Running at the highest possible settings... They did a good job with this port..

I have the PC version and paid $20 bucks. I got this Mac version to send a freakin message to the developer that Mac users want games running natively on the Mac. Hopefully, developers will realize that that 90% of the PC market is not equal to 90% of the home PC market.

Good move dude. People forget that Feral have been supporting Mac gamers through thick and thin - they've been doing quality ports for the past 15 years. I'd get this in a heartbeat if it ran on my Mac mini.

What resolution is that? I mean even under Bootcamp (Win7) itself I only get 30-40fps at 2560x1440 at max settings, and it occasionally drops lower during heavy combat. I've got a higher end iMac too.

1920 x 1200 iirc (max?). I will say that for a second (and no more) after walking into a new section (entering doors etc.) I notice a slight drop (10 or so) in frames. I would guess I am running at over 40 most of the time otherwise.

I think the issue is that many folks don't seem to understand the economics of porting titles to the Mac that the original developer had no interest in doing themselves. Yes we all want to see a day when all Mac and PC releases are simultaneous and pricing is identical but if Mac users don't support the Mac release and buy the console or PC version instead then it isn't going to happen. All the feral titles I own have been high quality native ports and they are always trying to add Mac only features or content to add value. The small number of Mac porting companies aren't like some of the massive corporations that seem to be looking at ways to charge you more for less and less, they are tiny companies made up of Mac fans wanting to make gaming on the Mac better because they are gamers themselves.

Ah, no AA. I have my AA maxed (can't stand jaggies but AA eats up performance).

No, I have. I guess I should clarify that most prices don't really change, at least for consoles.

I bought Arkham Asylum in the "Classics" edition for Xbox 360 from Amazon UK for 10 bucks. Just like PC games, console games also have significant price drops after a couple of months.

Only Mac versions of old games are ridiculously over-priced. But don't we all just love to pay more for our "premium" systems...?

UE3 was ported late september. I imagine Feral wasn't able to take advantage of this; they had probably been working on the game for months.

Feral first ported the UE3 engine last year when we did Borderlands GOTY which was the first ever UE3 engine powered game on the Mac. The second UE3 game on the Mac is Batman Arkham Asylum.

Got it in one I was a Mac gamer long before I was a Mac game maker ;)

In this case the extra features we added to the Mac over the PC include the Joker as a playable character a feature that never made it onto the 360 or the Windows GOTY releases.

It might not be a massive feature but we do our best to make sure the Mac version is polished and comes with all the trimmings. The game supports a PS3 pad (if you have it synced) even using PS3 button prompts in game.

You can use other pads like the 360 pad or others from Logitech etc. Every pad we support automatically maps the layout to match the standard layout. This mean no matter the pad jump is always the bottom button left analogue is always run etc etc.

To everyone who has bought the game I hope you enjoy it. It has been a labour of love getting this one completed and we are proud to get another Unreal Engine 3 game onto the Mac.

Can't really do much about it at the end, I'd love to see games actually made from the ground up for Mac OS, but I don't think that will happen any time soon, no secret their aren't many Mac users in comparison, and the ones that Apple does have are running Machines with underpowered GPU's, I understand that has been improved over the years, now we see iMacs with dedicated GPU's however they are still fairly low end, so you can't expect to play all games, especially Mac ports, since they generally perform poorly..

Why such high requirements?

It's unfortunate that the system requirements are considerably higher than the PC version. I am able to play the Win version using Boot Camp partition with Win 7. But according to the Mac requirements, it doesn't support my Nvidia 9400 graphics. Why is this?

I wish they would get a Mac demo so I can at least try it and see if it will play before I buy it. After writing Feral, they explained that while it might play on my Mac mini, they won't support me because of my graphics card.

If anyone has a 2009 Mini and is able to play this, please post here for others.

Nice game played it on a dual GTX 480 and it rocked with physx turned on. Love all the fog and steam special effects.

Sorry but for me Apple is business first I need a computer and OS that can guarantee me security and performance/stability.

If I want to play girly games build a nice cheap plastic case PC for half the price and run it as your game system. That how I did it. Plugged it right to a 42 inch plasma tv. Strange more people don't do this. Very strange. ;)

iMac users would be better to use boot camp and just buy it used for cheap. Its all the same which ever OS you use.

And if they ever actually bring out the next gen console it will probably be mute to even play on a Mac when you can play on a ps3/xbox at 1080p which for a game like these do just fine when it comes to the control.

PC version of Arkham Asylum, Runs fine via steam on my now ageing MBPs Nvidia 8600 at 1440x900 , and only cost me £5 when it was on sale, XboX 360 and PS3 versions can be picked up for about £10 on sale now.

so £28 is a bit much, even for a mac native port, i "might" pick up a game at that price if its released the same week, or even same month as the PC version , but a year later, when I've just spent the same amount buying the PC version, nahh,

There seems to be a catch 22 in Mac game development, not enough sales to warrant a games day and date release or original developers making a native version, and when they do get released by a third party porting team they don't sell because they are seen as expensive "old" games that people have probably already purchased and completed and the publishers then look at those low sales numbers and then don't bother investing in day and date releases...its a sad loop thats going to feed into itself forever, and apples 30% cut on the mac store doesn't help the price.

All settings turned up to high on my GTX 285 and resolution of 1920x1200. It doesn't run great...at all.

:(
