You didn't give any advice

You merely stated the obvious in regards to one aspect of a computer and not taking into account the other reason why one would choose a mbp. For his needs, a gaming computer may not be in his priorities at all, just a nice to have and thus would not be getting his mony's worth

All he did was give his results of how a game played on his mbp.

It's akin to me posting a 0-60 time in my jeep and someone would say...for the same amt that you got your jeep for, you could have gotten a sport bike and had a much faster 0-60. Well no **** sherlock...just I didn't just buy a jeep soley for its 0-60 time

Money's*

That's not the point.

If the OP has the right to post his findings, so do I.

What I stated might be obvious to you, but it is a truthful and sincere statement. Other's may not find it obvious.

Also noting how someone might save money by buying a gaming rig instead falls into the category of advice, suffice it to your understanding of what advice is.

It does not matter if the OP was not looking for advice. The point of a thread is to open discussion, regardless of what people reply with. It's called having an open dialogue, which apparently this forum lacks. It is understandable that there will be bias on this site because the domain has the word Mac in it, but that is not the point. Bias is everywhere. You're biased. We are all biased one way or another.

But I digress...

Let's go back to my original statement.

For $2800 you could built a high end rig.

That is clearly good advice. You will get 10x the performance and even save money if you throttle down some of the parts you want to save money on. Will it be in a portable package? No. Obviously it won't be.

Was the OP's reason for buying a laptop just to game? Possibly. Is the OP a rare gamer that uses his machine for productivity but wants to game once in a while? Possibly. These two things do not matter. At all.

A simple gesture of good faith is clearly not up to standards here at Mac Rumors.

Your biased opinions and inherent name calling is appalling. It seems that some of you have the tendency to attack anyone who is clearly trying to state his/her own opinions.

Made a new video, showcasing Arkham City on the Retina MBP.

Managed a consistent 50-60FPS at HIGH Settings at 1920 x 1200. Very impressed.

This was the OP

Now where did he ask for advice on gaming performance or where to spend his money?

Looks like he was merely posting performance specs for a machine he bought.

Then here you come with your 2cents.

For $2800 you could built a high end rig.
How can you game on such a tiny screen?

I don't game anymore, but I tried to play Portal 2 and I couldn't finish it. It's like watching a movie on an iPhone.

But yes, I guess if you started a thread on offroading and I quip with a post about motorcycles, it is fine as it's open dialogue. Who cares if it is completely irrelevant right...especially after I wander into the dedicated offroading forum to post about motorcycles.

edit: Thanks for catching my spelling mistake...

Though if you want to play that game, it should be build, not built, in that first post I quoted you. But that's not the point.

Like I mentioned, one does not need to ask for advice to have a conversation. I direct you to an easily accessible Wikipedia article if you're interested in finding out what an internet forum is all about.

That is fine. Nothing wrong with that.

You know you can go off-roading on a motorcycle, right? Now as far as the survival rate....

Sure. Thanks for catching mine.

No, it's clearly not useful at all. The OP has already bought the computer. How is your "advice" helping the OP at all? Maybe if he/she was asking what the best gaming rig he/she could build for the price was, you could help him/her out with your idea, but in this scenario, it was merely a useless statement of "what could have been" and unless you are still a fetus, you realize how useless those thoughts are. Look, we appreciate you trying to help, but maybe try and give advice relevant to the topic instead of starting a debate over gamin PC's when the OP is on a portable Mac sub-forum and clearly gaming is not their main concern.
Cheers bro! :)

Edit: And OP, congrats in the purchase, jealous of your experience and now I'm kind of wanting to try that game on my late 2011 15". Thanks for sharing your experience.

Your idea of having a conversation is bringing up irrelevant and off topic points to a discussion that everyone else is trying to have about the initial topic? Interesting.

You know you can go off-roading on a motorcycle, right? Now as far as the survival rate....

You are missing the point.

Nice. And how does 1920x1200 looks in person since it's far from screen's native resolution?

Looks Incredibly sharp. No blurriness at all.

This is interesting considering the folks at laptopmag:

http://blog.laptopmag.com/windows-7-tested-on-retina-display-macbook-pro-how-good-is-it

were unable to get Arkham City to run for more than 30 second at most.

What display settings did you use?

This differs quite heavily from what my experiences were. I simply ran high settings at 1920 x 1200 and it ran very well. Maybe they didn't have the latest drivers?

I think I might send that site my video and ask them to retest, because that is quite misleading based off of my results.

This is a thread about how Arkham City runs on the rMBP.

Your comments about other gaming systems and iPhone screen size look a LOT like trolling. They are nothing to do with this thread.

Your responses about "giving advice" also make you look like a confirmed troll. It's like me going to an MS forum and posting in a thread about how well Office 2010 runs on MS Surface - "Office runs much better on a mac". It's not advice, it's a troll post that has nothing to do with the thread.

Please pipe down. OP's video is very good and worth discussing rather than your trolling.

OP - how were the fans during this experiment?

The fans were definitely spinning. They could be heard during loading, but during the game the game at full volume (which was very comfortable) drowned them out.

And to the people giving me crap for buying this and gaming on it instead of buying a gaming rig:

1) I game already on a custom built windows 7 PC with an i5 2500k, 560 ti, etc
2) With this, I can game away from my huge PC.
3) I do much more than gaming on this laptop. I work on photoshop, final cut, and I am learning iOS development.

Can't run Batman AC

Hey guys,

I'm a complete newbie to Macs, and I recently bought a rMBP. I've bootcamped it with a lite version of Windows and everytime I try to play Batman AC, I can't even get past the first cutscence. It says something along the lines of referenced memory could not be read. However, I'm running on bootcamp, x64 bit windows (so all RAM is in use) and 2.3 GHz i7 etc. My pagefile is also at the full 8 GB. So I am so confused and a little frustrated. I was hoping anyone else could help me out?

Cheers

I don't understand why anti-mac people prowl these forums starting fights about why you should have bought a PC instead. It's silly.

Congrats, OP, enjoy your computer.

For $2800 you could built a high end rig.

Or, we could buy a very thin, light & powerful computer that we can take with us where we want. We also get to enjoy this computer in all of it's many talents, not just go "YEH BRO CHECK AWT MA SPEX IT DUZ 5 TRILLIUN EFF PEE ESS ON CRY SIS TEW"

Right well, i think it's a fair assumption to say that the OP wanted a laptop, not a desktop... so please could you point me in the direction of a gaming laptop that will give TEN TIMES the performance that he was getting with the rMBP. I'd love to see it.

I'm guessing the reviewer doesn't realize that Boot Camp graphics drivers are NOT the best you can get! Always get the drivers from the manufacturer for best performance!

DX11 chokes up most systems on this game, it was poorly implemented. I get good frame rates with DX11 on my Mac Pro...but it stutters often.
