I am waiting for my local Best Buy to get in the Apple Charger. I suppose I could drive down to the new Apple store a few cities away...

Me Too!

Replaced batteries in my magic mouse (kirkland AA from Costco). Went to use it a day or too later, no workie. Opened it up, and one of the batteries had exploded!! Cleaned it up, put 2 more in (Energizer this time). Mouse didn't work, and I was comtemplating who would point the blame at whom. After sitting for 2 days, just opened it up - the same battery exploded again!!

Guess I'll call it in, and get set up with a new one on Apple's dime!

Oh, and my keyboard batteries are now low - I'm scared! ;)

Just so everyone is aware.

Got the Apple rechargeable batteries. Installed in mouse first since it needed some fresh ones after original ones were going dead.

First observation--the mouse weighs more with those rechargeable batteries. Not a complaint, but noticeably heavier to my hand and I weigh around 200 lbs.

yes, this is the same with all other rechargeable batteries.

Interesting, when I was at the Apple store contemplating a purchase the CS guy strongly suggested getting the rechargables. Now I think I see why. Hmmm, do the know something we don't...

Battery Exploded in Mouse

Same problem. Single battery exploded in magic mouse. I believe this is a hardware problem, not a battery problem. Has anyone heard from Apple, other than battery replacement, or to use rechargeable batteries? I replaced the mouse with an new HP optical and works fine with the wireless keyboard. Other than the aesthetics, it really works better than the MM!

"Our household AA favourites are around 31g in weight for the best rechargeable batteries, however the single use AA will only be around 23g, quite a big difference." *from the Duracell website*

I guess that's one more reason to get the nifty trackpad, it could have 100 batteries in it and no one would notice...? :)

Personally, in all of the years since I was a kid, the only time batteries leaked was when they where left in a device over a long period of time and not used...?

I have the Apple rechargeables in my stuff, tried 'em in the digital camera too. They really rock! At least 5 times longer life than any other battery I've tried. Honest. I really hope they don't leak though.

You can just buy Sanyo Eneloops or Duracell Whitetops (same batteries) - cheaper than Apple Batteries (which are Sanyos anyways).

I just joined so I might reply to this post. My mouse exploded just last night. I do not currently use a MAC product (although I love them and miss my little white laptop tremendously) but am using a borrowed Dell. I put in my own cordeless mouse because I didn't like the touchpad on the Dell. The mouse itself was a rather cheap one but worked quite well... until it exploded. It too had Energizer batteries in it. I searched the web for other similar occurances thinking it was a problem with the mouse when I ran across this thread. Just thought I'd share.

The Magic Mouse I bought with my MacBook Pro came with Duracell batteries. I've had mine since February and it is still claiming to have 100% charge.

This also happened to me - just with my Magic Mouse

I'm sure it's a common occurrence, especially when any length of time passes between uses--in my particular situation, the batteries exploded while I was moving to a new apartment and not using the mouse for approx. a month. I'm not sure if batteries will do this to any device, or if the issue is isolated to Apple accessories (maybe due to a chemical reaction between the batteries and the stainless steel. Although this happened to my mouse over a year ago, I was pretty irritated that the mouse was fully functioning one day and completely worthless the next. I didn't even try to ask if they would replace it, but now wish I would have tried. I've still got my broken mouse, and all the original packaging--the back is just busted!!! Oh well...

There's no such thing as an alkaline battery that won't fall to pieces eventually - taking gear it's installed in with it. They are banished from my home and business for this reason. Go 100% eneloop ASAP, be they Sanyo or apple branded.

This awakened thread made me go and look at my newish imac, which came about 8 weeks ago with apple supplied energiser batteries, have replaced the batteries (battery? ) in the mouse once, and the keyboard is still on the originals and reporting 100% and it's been used for at least an hour every day.
