Day 2 testing

Current Test.

3G: on
Wifi Off.
Push Off

All internet and email is grabbed through 3g.

2hours of usage.
8hours of standby.

I am 95% battery life remaining.

Yesterday's test:

3G: on
Wifi Off.
Push on

All internet and email is grabbed through 3g.

4 hours of usage.
15 hours of standby.

I stopped at 10% battery life remaining.

Do the math.

Man i had the 3g iPhone on iDay but replaced it the next day due to dead pixels and its battery seemed fine but my new one seems really ******, here are the specs.

100% at 9:20 am, 3G and Location Services on, Wifi and Push off.

Made a 30-second phone call, a few hours later surfed the web for about 15 minutes, checked the app store for a minute (didnt download anything) and starting at 2:30-ish i have been talking on the phone for the past hour and 32 minutes and my usage times are 2 hr with 6h 37 min standby time and my battery is at 20%. Should i break it in more or is it defective you think?

Just like to add my name to the list. I could always make it nearly 2 days on my old iPhone without a charge. With the 3G iPhone, I can barely make it through a business day. :(

I find I get about another 2 hours of usage after I get the "20% battery left" indicator. I'm getting about 5 hours of usage and 10-12 standby with similar settings as most. I'm betting Apple will fine tune the battery indicator so it's more linear, but it looks like they need to find a way to optimize "push".

I am now convinced that there is battery faults going on here.

I had both my old and new phone set today to the exact same settings. Push off, 3g off, LS off, wifi on and collect mail every 15 mins. I used my work mobile to take calls all day and didn't touch any of the iphones. Would you believe the iphone 3G was giving me 20% warning after 6 hours!!!! My iphone 2g was still showing high 80-90% bar reading!! I mean come on!! on 2g the new phone has DOUBLE the spec in terms of battery life it should last twice as long! Something isn't right here.

I will try and keep the discharge recharge cycle for another few days. After that I will be asking for a new phone. May wait until the next batch of manufacturing though.

As I posted in another thread:

I honestly believe there is a problem with the calibration of these Li Ion "smart" batteries. Smart batteries report their power state to the device. The amount of charge may remain constant, but what the battery reports may be radically different:

"Repeated short discharges and recharges cause increasing inaccuracy between the state-of-charge of the battery and the Power Meter readings. Periodically, the battery needs to be calibrated to "relearn" its usable capacity so it can synchronize its charge status with the Power Meter. "

Something is amiss with the battery: either it is inaccurately reporting the amount of charge, and/or it is not setting the charger with the correct algorithm.

I hardly ever use my phone. With my Krzr my goal would be to go all week without having to charge it. With the iPhone I don't think I'll be able to make a full day without having it charge. Yesterday I took it off the charger at 7 AM and around 5 PM I got the 20% warning. This was with just mostly playing with email b/c push wasn't working. Today I took a sick day. It came off the charger at about 10:30 AM. It's now 8:10 PM and it looks like the 20% warning should be coming on soon. Most of the day I only used it for checking email when I got a push notification. I did play a game for a little bit. I can't figure out the usage data. It shows 8h 44m usage and 9h 47m standby. There's no way I used it for 8h.

I have just over 4 hours of usage and 15 hours and counting standby time.

3G, Push on

I've had limited time on WiFi and core location is off.

Today I have:
~25 mins. calls
1 hour or so of iPod
Surfed
Used AIM
Twitter
Crash Bandicoot
6 texts
10 emails.

Been running the last half hour on 10% remaining.

Well, my new iPhone was a DOA after having it for only 48 hours. I woke up early on Sunday morning and got to the Apple store at 8:50am (the store opens at 9am). I was number 10 in line, didn't wait long in the Texas heat, got in the building by 9:03am, met with a sales person by 9:15am, processed and purchase and was out the door by 9:50am. I was quite lucky.

Well, I thought I had a good phone until it was acting really slow whenever I pressed the home button to get out of an app. Battery life was bad so I charged it over night. Went to work the next morning, listened to some music, surfed the web, checked email. I even turned off 3G to save battery. By the time I got home I was down to 10% and in the red. I decided to let it die and then recharge it over night to re-calibrate the thing.

The next morning, the phone was fully charged and went to the gym for my 5am workout. Got home around 7:30am, picked up my phone to plug it in for one last charge, showered, grabbed the phone again and noticed that nothing was working- no screen, no reaction, nothing. I plugged it to my iTunes and no recognition whatsoever. Found my receipt, original box, took it to work. Got to work, logged on to Apple and made a reservation to see the Genius Bar.

Got to Apple for my 12pm noon appointment, Adrian (the tech) plugged it in, no power. Waited 10 minutes- still nothing. He took it back to the manager to request a even exchange. Approved. He then checked the inventory and told me that they didn't have any black 16GB in stock. I asked him to check the back and also check the loading dock. He went back there, and came back with a black box...my new iPhone 16GB black! He said I was right about the loading dock. They just started to unload another shipment at that moment.

The manager met with me, swapped out the phone's sim card, reactivated the phone and I was good to go. So far, the phone is doing pretty good. We'll see how well the battery holds up tomorrow. Wish me luck!
;)

Last charge cycle:
3G On/Off (switched on for the last 4 hours, with about a half hour of use)
Location Services On
Push On
Wifi Off
Bluetooth Off

I just hit 20% warning at 5 hours 2 minutes usage time, and 1 day, 4 hours of standby time. I'm gonna push through tomorrow and see what I get for leaving 3G on all the time, but so far I'm not really complaining. There's not much difference between how my old iPhone and this one works battery-wise.

I came up with some fantastic results today!

Usage: 11 hours 58 minutes
Standby: 14 hours 10 minutes

3 hours WiFi
1 hour Edge
30 minutes 3G
4 hours music
