Is this real? on every phone i have owned the battery decreased after 25 mins no matter what never mind using all the other services you mentioned.

So, you have push turned on? do you just have mobile me or exchange also?

My battery barely lasted 8 hrs on standby overnight with 0% usage from me. I had everything turned on but use exchange so I guess my phone was polling the server like crazy (even though I maybe had 2 emails).

I have a feeling it was running something in the background. Check your usage times.

Update:

2 hours usage of which 55 mins was talk time.
7 Hours standby.

Battery indicator at 70% My old Iphone would still be showing just under full at this point, however it is noticably better then it was yesterday. I have poor 3g reception at work and I have everything but bluetooth on. Yesterday I drained it and then fully charged it over night. Will do the same today (assuming it lasts long enough) and will carry on doing that all week to condition the battery properly.

Fingers crossed it gets better like my old iphone did.

That's what I got on my old phone too. Right now my 3g after an hour and 52 minutes of usage (18 min of which was talk time)/ 16 hours of standby is showing around 50%-60% battery left. I barely used the thing too.

I have to try and drain it all the way and recondition it. Hopefully that helps.

so today i took the phone of the charger around 10 am, made about an hr worth of calls, about 30 txts, had push on all day, and currently im about 25-50% battery....

3g was off
wifi off
push mail on
location base on

i think i am going to visit att tomorrow for a possible swap.

It won't get you a better battery - push mail will kill your battery when it is on.

My same usage bit still says "Usage times will be shown after the iPhone is fully charged" despite the phone being charged 3 times since I got it! Maybe the battery is faulty after all

I had like... 20 apps loaded on my iPhone 3G and boy did the battery die down quick. I would maybe get 3 hours of use (not even consistent use). The phone was running choppy too (typing in emails or sms text messaging took forever to respond).

I cut down the apps, gave the iPhone a nice restart, and now everythings running smooth. My battery life did improve too.

Maybe some of the apps stay connected and drains a lot of wear?

youre right, it had something like 9 hrs standby and 8 or 9 hrs usage. I thought it wasn't supposed to run apps in background or when it was "sleeping" though? how are you supposed to know if something is running??? its not like you have a task manager?

I dont understand the usage and standby figures though? does it mean if I have 5 hrs usage and 6 hours standby that my phone has had a total battery life of 11 hrs?

I got 3 hours and 40 minutes on 3G with 12 hours on standby. I just got 5 hours on EDGE. Most of it was internet.

I have had my phone on for about 5 hours. Played video for 1/2 hour and audio for about 1 1/2 and checked some emails. My battery is at half. At this rate my battery will not make it through the day. I am going to have to carry a long a desk and car charger. Hey we wanted these extra features, and now we are paying for them...:(

I have a 1st gen iPhone that has been updated to 2.0 firmware. I charged it fully last night (it shows 13h 28m of standby) and now it shows about 30% battery with absolutely NO usage at all! This same iPhone used to get 3-4 days with light use. Push is OFF and all of my othr settings are as they always have been.

I restored my iPhone 3G with the newest firmware and spent 3-4 hours listening to music today and 3 hours browsing the internet AT THE SAME TIME! (I was on a train so it was going in and out from 3G to EDGE to GPRS) and about 3 hours standby and now I am at 10%!

Is anyone else having such poor battery life? I really think 3 hours or so of browsing and music should not run the battery down to 10%!?!?

I also live in Manhattan which is supposed to have great 3G service so it shouldn't be looking for signal too hard and wasting battery.

FWIW, my boss works in Times Square and he reports his 3G is giving him a blazing 200 kbps. Personally, I got horrible data speeds on Sprint's Rev-A (haven't been there with the 3G yet) in Time's Square and even voice calls were choppy with the phone constantly switching between EVDO and 1X speeds. The correlation is that I don't think any cell companies actually treat Manhattan as well as they say they do. I also wouldn't be surprised if all those big buldings in midtown cause signal cancellation problems which would be the same as extremely weak signals, practically speaking.

Well I'm another of the legions of the miserable. I let my phone run down all the way and then plugged it into the sync cable for 5 hours with the phone off. Took it off and it's only half charged! And after only an hour of use with location and wifi off, I get the 20% remaining error.

Either this battery is defective, or the calibration is off, or these phones were sitting too long in shipping containers in a California port since March.

7 hours is EXTREMELY good for a pda phone, my windows phone only use to last 3 hours. But the problem can be with the battery meter just like the first gen which was fixed with a software update.

I've heard Apple wants to win some business from Blackberry with the new 3G iPhone, but my 2G Blackberry goes days without having to be recharged. Now I realize the screen is much smaller, no real web browser, etc... But if Apple wants the business sector to start seriously using the 3G iPhone they are going to have to engineer a device that can at least go all day with moderate to high usage without having to be recharged. Just my two-cents.

Really not having a lot of the issues that people on this forum are talking about...

I have been running the phone mostly on edge but def. some 3g mixed in. I have mobileme push on and have 2h18m usage and 11h32m of standby with about 60-70% of the battery left..One thing that I would look out for that is an issue on this phone and others, avoid data transfers when you have 0-1 and sometimes 2 bars..That's usually a quick way to drain the battery..

Good luck to everyone else..

It's not looking good for me so far. My typical daily use means my original iPhone was about 3/4 to 4/5 charged by the end of the day, my new iPhone 3G was down to about half charge today (my first day of use), and I didn't have time to keep using it so it's not the novelty factor.
