I hear it's good to not run off of the adapter since it keeps the juices flowing.

I'm the opposite of you.

I have an adapter at work and an adapter at home (yes, I am too lazy to coil up the wire and unplug the adapter ). I only run off the battery when I am at a seminar or something and don't have a power cord.

But you must be doing something right if you have been able to get 500+ cycles out of a single battery! That sounds pretty damned good to me.

I've been going with what Apple says on this page...
http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing.

I agree though, it's tedious to pack up the adapter when you leave the house. ;)

Woo Hoo!! I seem to be on a roll then. 74 cycles and 97% battery health on a SR MBP 2.2 GHz

Wow just download coconut battery and mine has only 50% capacity after 196 cycles... do i win??? i think a call to applecare is on the cards before my year warranty runs out next week :apple:

Yes, I'd say you need to call. 50% is way too low.

Called AppleCare, few questions later and they're sending me a brand new battery.. score! Thanks Apple.. great customer service once again! :)

Glad that worked out for you, though you did have a bum battery.

You should see all the negative reviews for the MBP battery on the apple store website. Makes you wonder if Apple even takes the time to notice. It's like the yellowing on the SR's, you hope that someone, somewhere, is keeping track of how many replacements are required.

Of course, who knows if these people are calibrating.

I'm at 39 cycles
96% (94% according to istat)
Bought 6/5/07 so it's ~4 mo old
I just calibrated last night hoping it would help, but not really

Also my fan behavior is quite odd since the Processor gets hot while the memory controller does not so the fans don't go on.

battery life?

hi there! so im completely new to this forum so bear with me if i accidentally do anything wrong haha!
i just recently bought a macbook, and i mean recently (ie. a week ago). I fully charged it once, and yet the battery seems intent on draining very rapidly. I turned it on at 100%, and it keeps on decreasing and decreasing; its probably been 3 hours and it went to 72%. It decreases in intervals from 94, to 92, to 88... and this has kept on happening until it reached 72%. It's been at 72% for an hour now.

I downloaded coconut battery and here's what it says

i was just wondering if this is a normal thing or not with a new macbook? thanks so much i appreciate you guys helping out a slightly clueless person like myself :)

hahaha that's pretty interesting right there. Can't say I've heard of that one before! Since the actual health of your battery is still good, I would just keep using it for a couple more weeks and then calibrate. Once you calibrate the battery it should return to normal. If it doesn't...who knows lol :)

I've got a 3.5 year old MBP that has had 4 batteries. The latest is 3 months old and has 17 cycles on it so far and a battery health of 77%. And I don't believe that number as it gets only about 1.5 hr of life and then the computer shuts down.

Apple checked my MBP out years ago and said nothing was wrong. At least I got apple care and those batteries were free.

This does not make me enthusiastic to get a new nonuser-replaceable battery MBP, which I'd like to do.

I keep my MBP plugged in most of the time. It goes to sleep to travel to and from work and I try to cycle it at least once or twice a month. I've just learned to live with crappy battery life with this computer. :(

Read the battery info link I posted about 3 posts back. It's not good to run plugged in all the time. You need more than a couple cycles a month.

I have a new unibody (white) MacBook that has 95% health and only 6 cycles. My brother's older unibody (aluminum) MacBook has 97% health and 130 cycles. Both MacBook's haven't been calibrated in at least a few months.

It's only a battery. Batteries deteriorate with age and use. Try not to obsess about your battery's life unless the thing clearly is not getting its job done.
