I have no idea what is a good battery or what is a bad one, so I'm here seeking for opinions, many thanks!

Just updated to 4.1 two days ago and my recent battery status is:

*************************
49%

Usage: 3 Hours 55 Mins
Standby: 18 Hours 17 Mins
*************************

So is it normal? or bad? or pretty good already?

Thanks in advance!

On 3G only? If do sounds excellent to me,

Marc

No Sir, mostly Edge and Wifi, and quite a lot of phone calls.

That I'm not sure at the moment. Currently after my restore as new phone I'm seeing how much battery life I am able to get to 10% battery.

Tomorrow I'll do a wifi only and we can compare.

What seems to be a factor for me is I use my iPhone alot therefore my standby times seem to be less than the norm of what I've been seeing here.

Thank you Marc, keep me updated please. Appreciated!

My 3GS is rocking on 4.1

Usage - 8 hours 15 minutes
Standby - 3 days 16 hours
Just been using 3G and wi-fi (3Gworks so much better now) and watched an episode of Dexter which was 50 minutes long.

Currently on 5% battery.

iPhone 4 should be better than this surely?

My usage seems alot different than the norm. I use my iPhone much heavier than you because my usage and standby ratio is much much smaller than yours.

Normally my standby is less than 1/2 of my usage making my battery run out quicker. I easily use 4hrs of usage with 6-7 hrs standby compared to your 3 days of standby.

Anyone have ratio of 2(standy hrs)-1(usage hrs)?

Marc

strange...

4.1 has been working fine for me, but just today, after 1 hour of usage and 5 hours of standby time, i was down to 59%. that seems pretty low to me! i'm normally at that by the end of the day.

hope something's not wrong with my battery...

After doing the restore as new I don't see a change.

I'm at 3 hrs usage, 7 hrs 31 min standby, 34% battery. 3G only.

Forums and forum postings. One you 3 min you tube video.

I'd be interested in responses from iPhone users who have similar used not 1 day plus standby's but 2-1 ratios .

My battery life has gone down hill on my 3gs, i guess it is the 4.1 update:

Right now i'm at:
32%
2:29 usage
8:14 of standby

Haven't done anything intensive like games, video or streaming. Just some surfing, and email checking.

Here is a batt life history log for my phone:

Charge % | Usage |Standby
68 | 1:51 | 4:32
74 | 1:43 | 6:18
58 | 2:16 | 17:35
47 | 3:17 | 7:07
21 | 4:03 | 11:01
12 | 4:17 | 12:33
64 | 1:51 | 18:45
37 | 4:49 | 16:50
39 | 4:56 | 17.56

64 | 1:45 | 6:27
AfterOS4
59% | 2:53 | 6:27
AfterOS4.1
32% | 2:31 | 8:18

Last night i went to sleep with 29% left, woke up with the phone dead. Before i went to sleep i made sure any major app was closed so that I could free up as much ram as possible.

I guess I will try a hard boot.

1:41 Usage
5:26 Standby
80%
UPDATE:
3:50 Usage
9:16 Standby
48%

Push off (inc. Game Center)/ fetch 30 min
Notification on for 6 apps

I think push is the real killer on the battery.

Usage

4.1 on iPhone4

Battery life went up from 6.5-7 to 7.5-8hrs

A good way to reset your battery is to plug it in, THEN turn it off, and let it charge overnight.

It depends on what the usage was. If that was all 3G browsing and/or phone calls then yes, that's very respectable. If it's all WiFi browsing then I'd say that's a bit weak, I would have hoped for at least another hour if not two hours of usage before hitting 46% (maybe you have the screen brightness very high?). If that usage was all iPod listening then there's something seriously wrong.

True lots of people post their usages here and I'll take an educated guess that most usages are not using the iPhone with intensity like browsing. In other words what does your 3 hrs of usage include? When iPhone is in sleep mode it uses up usage though very little. Does 3 hrs usage include 3 hrs of browsing either on 3G or wifi, watching you tube videos, etc?

There seem to be very few people who use the iPhone like I do, not bragging but I use my iPhone intensely.

Marc

That's awesome, Marc. How intensely do you use it? What are your typical activities?

I have an online business and use the many applications that are available to work my business on my iPhone such as posting alot on my blogs, social media surfing and postings, you tube videos. Normally at least 6 hrs of these types of uses plus couple hours of personal stuff. So at least 8 hrs of real bonafied usage.

Most people get into the office in the morning, have a coffee or two, and then sit at their desk in front of their PC for the rest of the day. If I understand correctly then essentially your iPhone is also your work PC, or at least used for a large part of your work computing activities.

Are you usually out of your home/office and on 3G or more at home and on WiFi? Apple claim 6 hours surfing on 3G and 10 hours on WiFi so I'm assuming that you use WiFi most of the time otherwise you might have a problem, according to Apple's specs, to get 8 hours of 3G internet access on a single charge.

Yes with today's technologies via smart phones I can work 90% of my online
business on my iPhone. There are alot of sources that allow and provide such.

I'm usually out of my office. Although I have an online business I have a 'regular job'. I'm blessed with a 'regular job' with ALOT of downtime as I work outside in a vehicle and on my own. It's the nature of my job.

I get wifi in the area I work in with no problem and on wifi most of the time I'm working my business on my iPhone.

Apple claims 10 hrs surfing on wifi and 6 hrs surfing on 3G? The way I use my iPhone I don't think I would make it 10 hrs surfing, posting to blogs, you tube, checking email often manually.

I did a 3G only test with the work I do on my iPhone. On 3G I couldn't get past 4 hrs or so at 10% battery left usage within 8 hrs.

I went to genius bar yesterday and explained my issue and how I use my iPhone. They ran a scan and said everything was great. A scan was ran a week ago and the tech said to use it for a week to see how it goes. Wasn't satisfied with battery life therefore my trip yesterday to the genius bar. They gave me a brand new iPhone. I wanted battery changed but since my iPhone was less than 30 days the tech said I'll give you a new one and see how it goes.

After explaining on how I use my iPhone they said that getting 4 hrs or so in the time frame of the way I am using it is normal( as I work my iPhone pretty hard in an 8 he period).

So today I'm on wifi only and will see how battery life goes with real actual heavy use within an 8 hr period.

Marc

Funny, my battery life has been OK, but my usage stats don't show it. I am showing 1 1/2 hours standby. It has never run out that quickly. What should I do?

Forget the stats. If by your standards the battery life is OK then don't worry about what everyone has. So far, the best recommendation is to let the battery get to 10% or less, then do a full charge with the phone off overnight.
