To anyone who feels their Batter Life is worse.

Check your "Notification" settings.

I've just put a posting up here detailing my findings on Battery Life and having notifications for some apps turned on.

Almost 20% drop in batter life over a 24 hour period. Without me even touching the iPad and nothing noticeable coming in (sounds/popups/notifications)

Mine has been fine. Spent 15 minutes on VPN doing RDP to work and still had 100% afterwards.

Right now the Poll indicates that about 60% feel it's the same.

I think the split depends mostly on what you're running in the background. If you used to silently read your "FlipBoard" on 3.2, and now you stream Pandora Music and read FlipBoard under 4.2, of course your battery life will be lower.

There are other Apps that when run in the background will use up some battery life. Chatting and Voice Apps often poll a lot to check messages - and this might mean turning on your WiFi or 3G radio frequently.

The best thing to do if you notice an App that's really draining your battery quickly when running unattended in the background is to contact the developer of that App (via the support link on the App's iTunes page.) The developer should be able to tune the App to use less juice when inactive.

Odd, my battery is still brilliant, I go several days between recharges quite oftten and the version looks to be more of the same, just timed 1% of battery while browsing, installing an app, watching an imbedded vid etc and 8 min for 1% is better than I should hope for, 800 minutes total is over 13 hours

Do you guys ever do anything to look after the battery ? I periodically let it go flat to the point of shutdown then leave it a while, then charge for a good 10 hours overnight, i read it somewhere and it seems to work even though I'm sure it's mumbo jumbo. I read something similar for my mobile (HTC Desire) and thar made a measurable difference to the battery life so I'm inclined to think it might have some truth - feeling an email to myth busters coming on :)

Not sure if anyone has mentioned already but lipo batteries do not like going down past 60% or 80% of their capacity!

I've done as suggested, let my battery drain then fully recharged. I feel like it definitely worked for me. It stayed at 100% a good long while too.

No doubt that I am not getting NEAR the battery life I used to get. I would rather go back the way it was as the update did not blow my socks off. My iPad's battery used to last for every and now it is burning up power twice as fast, at least!:(

I took my iPad down to 13% battery, and then started watching a random movie on Netflix. It took about an hour and a half before the iPad shut down, so the battery consumption rate still seems pretty good to me.

Ok,

I have done an experiment on the battery life before and after update. I surfed the web on wifi for 2 hours on 3.2.2 and I got an average of 6 minutes and 13 seconds per 1 percent. Now, after the update I did the same experiment with an average elapse time of 5 minutes and 21 seconds per 1 percent of usage after two hours of testing. So the battery has decrease, but only slightly. Also, what I notice after the upgrade is the slower response time when I push the home button. And also, when I launch an app, it is a bit less responsive compared to 3.2.2. One more thing, the iPad seems to feel very warm after awhile of use, but I don't get this at all while using iOS 3.2.2

bought an ipad on black friday and started with iOS 4.2 straight away so I don't know what battery life was like before.

However, to be perfectly frank I don't find the battery life too great and it drains rather quickly. This is contrary to reports I've heard that the iPad's battery life is legendary.

I guess multi-tasking sucks up battery.

I followed a suggestion posted here and let my iPad drain to 0% then charged. Seems to have worked wonders. I've been surfing for 30+ minutes and I am still at 100%. I recommend this to anybody experiencing battery issues.
