The thing is, the the 2.6 is equivalent in power to the fastest quad core processor for Intel Core i7-3940XM, which is amazing in its own right. Can't really say you arn't getting what you paid for, though I agree it should be better... even at 7 hours at the very least.

I hope there are more guys, and girls that are getting around 11 hours.

I'm trying to find the post of the guy who is getting amazing hours even with the 2.6. This guy might want to get an exchange at the least.

Yup. I mean, it's still a powerful machine, so I can't be too bummed out about it. I was just hoping for at least 9 to 10 hours.

Its THE most powerful machine in the market now. Though at least 8 I thought would not be too much to ask for....

There is no way the battery is only going to last 4 hours with only safari open and 70 percent brightness. Surely it should be more than that.

I do remember A LOT of posters in the waiting for haswell thread demanding a dGPU in the haswell and not caring about battery life because they always have it plugged in.

I hope those worried about battery on this thread aren't one of these jokers.

OP, I'd say give Apple a call. You have telephone support for 90 days at the minimum.

2.3GHz with dGPU lasts for 8-9 hours. Just because its 2.6 shouldnt mean it lasts less than 4 hours.. one would think.

I also just saw that the OP had his brightness at 100%, so that's probably a big deal with the battery. I'll be happy with what the other posters are saying by using 50% brightness and around 7 to 8 hours.

I'm at 50% brightness and it's been about 3.5-4 hours with just web surfing.

When you run it down, try recharging to another full cycle. Then when fully charged, unplug and use it. See what the battery life estimates are.

I have seen cases non-latest-retina where the brightness being at 40% to begin with reported over 2 hours more life than 100% brightness.

Did you already order?

Nope, I was about to and decided to browse these forums. Luckily I did, and I guess I might have to go with the 2.3Ghz and use my desktop for the heavier stuff, which is fine with me. I need a laptop for useable power on a go, it's not a desktop replacement that'll always be plugged in.

update: battery life much improved this morning - getting 7:20 showing on full charge, 50% brightness. Hoping it will improve further after a few more cycles.

I've also reset the pram, as I noticed that helped on my last retina 15" - not sure if it did anything this time or it was the natural course of things.

That sounds like a promising update. I think I can breathe a sigh of relief now.

I have a fully maxed out 15.4" model and when on the Iris Pro graphics the OS is estimating just over 6 hours of battery life at 100% battery level. This is with the brightness set to full a non-HD video playing in Movist, my mail open and chrome sitting idle with a single tab open. This is also with it connected to an 802.11ac router with the speed being negotiated at 1Gb/s in Network Utility.

On the 750M graphics it estimates just under 5 Hours with the exact same usage scenario.

Hope this was helpful.

7:20! So promising! Just a little more to get to 8. Just a little more! Keep pushing!

it does seem to be getting better the more I cycle it, my current cycle count is 8 so you probably need to get it to 10-15 before it starts to show normal results.

also, i'm using gfxCardStatus to manually ensure only integrated gpu is running

ideally i'd like the advertised 8 hours with the 750m running, but I don't think that's possible

Mine is starting to improve with more cycles as well! Whew...was starting to get miffed at the battery life...lol.

Good to hear.

And for the record, I don't blame anyone for resorting to "blind panic mode" when a new $2500 machine is showing signs of under-performing... although taking a few deep breaths is never a bad idea. ;)
