I just got a S4 40MM on Saturday.

First day in the office, I'm down to 77%. Usage for watch shows:

Usage: 1hr, 26 mins
Standby: 5 hrs, 48 mins

I have raise to wake disabled, low brightness, turned off automatic workouts, etc.

This seems pretty poor, no?

So far from my experience and much of the consensus here is that the S3 would do up to three full days before needing to be recharged. With the S4 you lose an entire day. I just make it through the end of day two before it’s dead.

This is not a two day device for me thus far not when you leave the phone behind and use LTE minimally or listen to music without the phone. 1.5 days using this watch as I used the series 3.... which, got me 2.5- to almost 3 full days before needing to charge.... I’m wondering if the new watch face with 8 complications has any blame? Regardless I’m a tad disappointed in the huge drop off in battery life. I was on a work trip and 5am-2am using it at 2 when it went on the charger it was down to 15 percent I had listened to music and made two brief calls did a work out.... and it was done.

I going to do the following when i get my watch.
  • Turn off Siri
  • Turn off raise to speak
  • Turn off bluetooth (i will mainly use it as my daily phone while leaving my iphone at home)
  • Turn off raise to turn on screen (i just push the button)
  • Turn off automatic excersize detection
  • Turn off walki-talki
  • Only default apps, no third party apps on the watch.
Why doing all of that? because it becomes my primary phone running off LTE all day long. (I seldom make phone calles or receive them anyways.)

I hope this way i can preserve battery maximum, but offcourse i will carry a portable charger with me as well just in case.

battery life has been subpar for me as well on my SS Series 4 44mm Apple watch compared to my previous 42mm Series 3 SS Apple Watch, i have most of the culprits disabled so don't really have anything to turn "off" to improve the battery life any further, WatchOS 5 might need to be optimized for the Series 4 considering the fact it was just released in order to provide optimal battery life.

Doesn’t this defeat the whole purpose of getting the device? To me it’s akin to getting a car and turning off “airbags, seatbelts, lights, and cruise control” to get 3 more miles per gallon in gas.....

As long as Walkie Talkie is deleted from my Watch I have a good battery life. With WT enabled/active my battery drains to zero within a few hours, with no interactions.

That is sort of like WeChat
[doublepost=1538461874][/doublepost]That battery inside is quite small. I can’t see it lasting too long

Take my watch off the charger at 100 percent, wake up 7 hours later and it’s at 96 percent with 24 minutes of usage even though I wasn’t even wearing it to bed ....

I put my watch off and on the charger yesterday and somehow I’m now at 21h standby. 4h usage and had it in saver mode for the night (6 hours) and am at 49 now. Which is pretty good.

Apple Watch Series 4 44mm GPS only. I usually charge it every night so it isn't an issue. But recently I didn't...Put it on around 9:00AM Saturday, had a big night so did not take it off Saturday night. Put it on the charger around 11:30PM Sunday with around 8% remaining. I averaged according to my iPhone about 38 notifications per hour, and I responded to a few messages and asked Siri a few things throughout the two days. I have BAR and walkie talkie on.

Usage: 7 Hours, 42 Minutes
Standby: 1 Day, 13 Hours
Battery remaining: 8%

Im happy with this performance.

I do wonder, what’s the point of background app refresh for the watch? Complications are always updated with it off. When I update my iPhones or any device, the first thing I do is turn off BAR.

My S4 + LTE has much worse battery life than my S3+LTE.

I set it up as a new watch, so I initially forgot about BAR being on. I just went through and disabled a bunch, as well as turning off ‘availability’ for WT.

Hopefully there’s some improvement tomorrow.

What is BAR and how do I turn it off? lol

Apples own documents say that if BAR is off complications will still update in the background.

Today so far...

88% battery remaining:

Usage: 1 hour and 19 minutes
Standby: 3 hours, 36 minutes

I can't understand why the usage is so high. I've gotten a few text messages and have barely used the watch.

I have automatic workout detection off, lowest brightness, wake to raise is off, etc. I did notice though that location services was on for awhile, looked to be the weather complication that was the culprit..

Still having serious battery problems with LTE.
Tested during an outdoor walk today: low LTE coverage (1 dot), drains 1-2% PER MINUTE.
The watch battery lasted exactly one hour in total, starting from full.
That was without doing anything on the watch, no workout,
just checking the battery every fife minutes or so.

With my iPhone connected, it drains like 2-3% percent per hour, which is not great, but OK I guess.

Someone else having the LTE battery drain issue?

My goal is a phone on my wrist, the rest is a bonus.
Even with all those features on you will get through the day no problem with general use. Your goal of having the watch as your main is unrealistic in my opinion. The watch just isn’t quite there yet, still needs a few more iterations before that is a reality.

I think I'm pleased with the battery life of my new S4 GPS. I charged it on Monday morning before going to work and now, Wednesday evening, it's down to 5%:

Usage: 8 hours, 13 minutes
Stand-by: 1 day, 15 hours

To be fair, this is my first Apple Watch, so I don't know how it compares to previous series.

Update
battery died at:
Usage: 8 hours, 23 minutes
Stand-by: 1 day, 17 hours :p

SS S4 - 44mm - 5.1 Beta2

Currently @ 57% and Auto Sleep used last night.

I have only a few background refresh off but this since on the latest Beta seems to have made my battery last as expected.

Absolutely! Let me know what you see. Any other questions, let me know.

So i took off the BAR and noticed that i only drained about 12%.
Then the next night I put on do not disturb, Theater Mode, and Airplane mode and only drained about 4%.

So very happy with that, but....

I downloaded the iOS 12.1 Beta today, and I'm assuming this has to be the reason, my AW (watchOS 5.01) is draining at a very fast rate. About 12% an hour. Im going to download the beta 5.1 for AW. Hopefully that corrects that.

Anyone else notice a big battery drain while using iOS 12.1 Beta 2 and watchOS 5.0.1

Thats crazy! i am very afraid of this when buying the LTE model myself without my phone present, on low signal it will just suck up the battery within a hour searching for a signal...

That`s unacceptable for the LTE model. It sounds like LTE on the AW only works decent if you have full reception when your phone is not around. I cant help to feel that LTE is just a gimmic on the AW when your phone is not around. The whole reason for LTE i suppose.

I dont know how people can claim they can run off LTE all day without the phone present yet you only can get 1 hour on low reception. Either your Watch is broken or other people are telling false information about the battery life running soley off LTE.

I’ve been tracking this thread without chiming in, until now. The battery life on my S4 is awesome. Draws down slowly and charges quickly. No problem.

I’m not understanding the usage times either. I have the same problem...minimal usage but usage is high.
