Apologies if this thread has been made a few times already.

How are y’all finding the battery life on the 2018 iPad Pro? I got the new 12.9 model and it seems to be draining a little too quickly?

But I’m not sure if it’s just in my head or this is an actual issue. This is my first iPad so I don’t have anything to compare it to. Are there any tests or benchmarks I can compare it to so I can be certain if this is normal or not? I understand there has been some QC issues with some users, albeit not on a large scale. Just making sure I’m not one of them.

Would appreciate any typos and/or advice.

Depends on what I do with it. Standby is much worse. Maybe because I don't have a magnetic cover on it yet? Web browsing and watching videos, I'm not sure yet. Playing with drawing apps and the like - definitely better.

I guess that doesn't tell you much, comparing to the older iPad's. Is it possible that you are like me, getting anxious when the battery drops below 80%? :D

Generally speaking though, Apple tends to hold true to their numbers. If you get significantly less battery life than advertised, you should consider returning it. However, sometimes there's an software issue that Apple will fix shortly. I'm not aware of any such issue at the moment, but do take that into consideration. Otherwise, you can trust Apple's numbers. If your device does not live up to that, then you have a bad battery.

Nowadays you can also check your battery status in the settings, to see how much on screen time you have and how much battery each app has drained. Check that to see if there's anything odd.

I’m seeing comparable battery life to my previous models. I use it as my primary computer during the day, and have rarely run below 10%. Seems to hold around 10-12 hours of use depending on brightness. Brightness is the main battery drain in my experience.

My battery life seems much better than my last iPad, but the battery from that one if over two years old so that's definitely a factor.

Any comparison between the 2018 Pro 11" and the 2018 iPad 9.7"...?

Standby on my new 12.9" is atrocious. After 4 days of literally no use it went from 100% to 55% just maintaining a wifi connection.

I leave it plugged in while in stand-by mode. I also use it not plugged in until it gets to 80%.

I'm also noticing more drain during standby than expected. In response, I've made it a point to charge to 100% and then use it until the battery runs out a few times to calibrate the meter, in case it's that (probably not thought). Otherwise I'll wait for a few more iOS updates to come along. It's not a huge issue for me but something that could be better.

Has anyone had issues with the new apple pencil draining the battery of the ipad pros when it's attached in standby? I went to bed last night with 30% left on my ipad and woke up with it completely dead (I always close every app also when I am done using it). The kicker is the pencil is drained down to 74% too, even though I hadn't used it at all and it was attached to the iPad the whole time. What is going on here? Are we supposed to take the pencil off when it's at 100%? I was under the impression you were able to just keep it attached at all times.

I have been keeping the pencil off of the ipad unless it needs to be charged and the ipad is still losing more battery in standby than any other apple device I've owned.

I think that is the root cause to the bad standby drain. I always have my pencil attached and I think it’s just sending enough current to keep the pencil’s battery topped off at a cost of high standby drain. I’ll have to see what my standby time is without the pencil attached and report back.

My 10.5 and 11” get about the same battery usage. It is quite good.

I always switch my iPad to Airplane mode via control centre when not in use and see no drain at all in either iPad or Pencil. Battery life has been impressive for me.

So switching the iPad to Airplane Mode when not in use, does it Prolongs Battery Storage ? I mean Battery Use ? Can I go for a longer time without charging if I keep it on Airplane Mode when I am not using it ?

Yes, at least for me. I have read about a lot of people with battery drain in standby for both iPad and Pencil but it seems a lot of people leave their Wifi and Bluetooth on. You are always going to see some kind of drain there with these enabled, especially depending on what other settings are enabled such as push settings, background refresh etc. Airplane Mode effectively stops all these. I'm not sure when the Pencil will recharge when connected though as I leave mine off the iPad for the most part apart from between uses when I'm actively using the iPad.

I went from LTE 9.5 Pro to WiFi 12" Pro, and it's so nice to have battery life! On the LTE model, I had to charge constantly. On the WiFi, I can charge every 2 days or so.

Battery life is endless. Display is super bright and vivid indoors at less than 50%
Apps have been optimized YouTube was my main battery drain previously.
Charges while using it. I saw threads that previous 12.9” models would not charge while being used. My 9.7” Pro struggled. My 11” charges on stock charger perfectly while in use.
Easily get 11 hours could get more but haven’t done any testing.
Switching home WiFi networking equipment to 802.11AC MU-MIMO Quad Core Router has helped in speed and battery efficiency I get more data faster. And more efficiently.

In short. The A12X and 120Hz Display when browsing webpages and YouTube are Rearely ever used to it’s full potential.
Which is 80% of my usage. Playing Marvel Future Fight or VainGlory you can really feel the 120Hz Display refresh rate pick up and the A12X and GPU Are almost running these games Too Fast. Can’t wait for Diablo Immortal.

Someone should really do a Gaming battery stress test.

Went from 12.9 to 11. Drains faster than I expected... i has thought that since the 12.9 had such a big screen it drained quickly, but I guess that’s not the case.

The real problem is that I have all of the hardware for fast charging but it charges really slowly compared to my 12.9. I could never believe how fast the massive battery in my 12.9 charged. Pretty disappointed in the slowness of this one. I don’t think it’s fast charging, tbh.

No science to back this but I agree. My original 12.9 standby time seemed to be forever. The 2018 is draining fast even over night. No changes to my setup so I’m not sure why..

Check your battery applet under settings and see what is using your battery.

On the 2017 models, the 12.9 had better battery life for me than the 10.5. On the 11", I'm seeing very good battery life - probably better than I was seeing on the 10.5
How long are you taking to charge your 11"? I'm able to charge this in under 2 hours.

If they are both off on a Wifi device then unlikely to make much of a difference. Do you turn them off under settings though or via Control Centre? I ask because Control Centre doesn't actually turn them off but suspends the connection. That is why I use Airplane model from the Control Centre instead of the Wifi and BT toggles.

isn't that Apple is all about ? To Make a User's Life Easy by Gestures. Of Course I use the Toggle Buttons to Switch Off the BT and W-Fi :)

In which case you aren't actually turning them off! ;)
Try Airplane mode for a couple of days to see if it improves.

So you are saying I should toggle off the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and additionally after that put the device on Airplane Mode ? That's what you are saying ? Right ?
