Thanks for the tip. I went from 7:45am to 9:45pm with 47 percent left and a 40 minute workout. I'll see if the next day improves with fall detection off. I don't really need it either at this point.

You're welcome! Do let us know if that works for you:)

Apple has always quoted "18 hours" (or "up to 18 hours") and it's clearly their intention that you charge it once a day:

https://www.apple.com/watch/battery.html

I don't understand some people's obsession with not putting it on the charger at night. Just stick it on the charger when you go to bed and stop stressing.
Unless you want or need to sleep track. My Watch 4 40 mm so far only uses about 50% of full charge in a 24-hour period, strongly implying that I could go 2 days without a charge. I use GPS, messaging, Harmony app for controlling entertainment center, and more.
So I could go 48 hours probably, but I usually sit down for an hour or so to watch the news in the evening, so I charge it for about an hour or so, and I’m good to go for a whole day. One does not need to charge it all night, just for an hour or so.
Sleep tracking is valuable information.

Sure, so put it on the charger at some other point (as you do). I guess my point was more that some people seem to be absolutely obsessed with the maximum continuous use they can get out of their watch without putting it on the charger, and that's not how it's intended to be used. No one is supposed to be worrying about their watch's battery life, and if they are it means they aren't putting it on the charger once a day. If you do that, you don't have to worry about the battery life. Simple.

There might be times when you don't get to top up your Watch often like when you're traveling. Also it doesn't hurt to see how far you can push your Series 4 without a charge.

I’ve switched from the Series 3 to Series 4. After testing 5 different Series 4 watches for 1 to 2 weeks each, I can safely say the battery performance of Series 4 as compared to Series 3 is about 30% worse. All 5 watches performed similarly. I’ve done extensive battery testing with Series 3 and I tested Series 4 under the same conditions.

Such a shame to have the Series 4 and not enjoy it.

It took me several days after getting the Series 4 44mm for battery life to improve, I think the watch had to "settle" but I am finding it to be very similar to what I experienced on Series 2. @tromboneaholic and I were doing battery life testing of sleep tracking for a 1-2 week period both independently came to the the conclusion battery life was very similar to our previous watches.

Did each Series 4 maintain the same settings you had on Series 3? Did you notice any improvement in battery life on Series 4 after a 4-7 day window? Would you care to share your results and the settings used to test both Series 3 and Series 4 watches?

In all cases the battery did not improve much after 4-7 days. Yes they all shared the same settings. My settings are pretty simple. Theatre Mode all the time.

In Theatre Mode Series 3 would typically get 2 days usage with 50% battery remaining.
With Series 4 in Theatre Mode, I've found 1 day usage with 50-55% battery remaining.

I found this using 5 different Series 4 watches.

Below is Series 3 after 2 days.

I do use the new watch faces and complications. I found there is very little difference in battery usage when using the Infograph face. I'm only using TheatreMode for the purpose of these tests. Outside of that I use the watch fully.

I found similar results with 5 different Series 4 watches.

From the photos, it just looks like you are using your Series 4 a lot more than your Series 3 (almost twice as much).

After 2 days you had 3 hours and 19 minutes of screen-on usage on the Series 3. After 20 hours on the Series 4 you had used it for 3 hours and 4 minutes of screen-on time.

I don't think the Usage is directly related to "screen on". For example you can have Theatre Mode and never tap to view the face in screen on mode, but earn usage time.

You are correct that usage time might not always indicate screen on, but it clearly indicates "usage" like playing music for example

The photos actually show your battery levels are similar after similar usage time. You are just using the Series 4 twice as much, which I can understand. The larger screen invites more use.

Usage may or may not be related to screen on but something is pegging your battery on Series 4. My guess would be the heart monitoring.

Battery usage is actually 15 minutes less on Series 4 by comparison to Series 3. However, you used that same battery power on Series 2 over 2 days vs. 20 hours on Series 4. And on Series 4 you are showing 6% MORE battery life.

Have you tested the same watch face to make sure you're getting the same results. I was gonna say apples to apples comparison but then it struck me that would be one awful pun lol

I'll try testing with a similar face but as I said I found similar results in all Series 4 I've used. Basically with Series 3 I charged every 2 days with 30% plus left on the battery. With series 4 I need to charge every day and a half. I could last 2 days but it will take the battery down to under 10%.

Keep an eye on your usage times for the watch. That is what is causing the difference, not the different models.

If your usage time was the same on both watches in a 20 hour period, the battery level would be similar. You have 2x the usage time on your Series 4 in a 20 hour period, so the battery is draining quicker.

I'm not completely convinced the face is causing a drain but I'm also not completely convinced the face isn't causing a drain on Series 4. Your Series 3 face doesn't have a heart monitoring complication on it, but Series 4 does. If I had to guess that complication is the source of the drain. As has been mentioned, something you have setup on Series 4 is causing the battery to get used so I'd argue that it's not that the battery is bad. The usage between the two models and the amount left is pretty much the same, and in fact is MORE battery life with similar battery usage on Series 4. Also, is your Series 3 the 38mm or 42mm?

On my Series 4, I have many of the same complications you have with he exception of Heart and the time zone sub dials. My battery life has been very comparible to my experiences with Series 2 42mm. Note the face and complications I'm using below.
