Those of you going to the Apple store for replacements could you post the last 4 digits of your serial numbers, both the new one and old one?

My battery life has been transformed...

I turned OFF all the Location System Services except for mobile network search
I'm now on: 1 day, 17 hours standby, 7 hrs 43 mins usage (including games / surfing/ music/twitter/browsing) with 17% battery left

I think you need to be sceptical about the usage figure as mine is between 75 and 85% of the standby figure even though I have turned off as many background processes as I can and I am not using the phone for anything like the quoted figure. I think that is the issue - something is running in the background draining the battery and I will wait till next week for Apple to release some information/fix or I will return the handset for a refund and wait and see what happens.

I really must stop buying new products from Apple on day 1 (if I keep telling myself that it might just sink in this time!)

Recent posts show a small trend of people who are experiencing a "magical fix" for their battery they cannot explain. Could it be possible Apple toned down the background syncing of iCloud material on the server side?

Whats the fastest way to drain the battery?

I Charged it to 100, now I'm trying to drain it, but it's taking hours! I've turned everything on, turned on skype, turned up brightness and am playing a movie. Is there a faster way to do this? I'm at 70 percent after 1:53 of all that and playing with Siri for a bit. Basically It will take around 7 hours at this rate!

Last night I lost 14 percent with the phone idle with nothing turned on. No apps in the background except perhaps the time app. I lose 1 percent every half hour when I do nothing. That seems a bit too much.

Play a 3D game. I play Order and Chaos to drop it like a rock.

I'm on 91% battery life having taken it off change at 8am... its now 12:36 and used it on and off all morning.

Miles better since I turned off the timezone crap, and ask to join wireless networks. Today seems even better still though - not sure why?

Would this be considered good?

35% battery left.
3:34min usage
13 hrs standby

Thanks guys.

i say it sucks based on how i felt my old iphone 4 held up.

Well crap. :)

Starting at 85% yesterday I ran Pandora until the phone died.

Final usage: 7hours 1min.

Charged to 100%.

Unplugged it.

After 6hrs and 30mins (while I was sleeping) I checked it and it showed 100%.

Thoughts?

Well I'm going to give it one more chance after I drain it for a second time and charge it otherwise I'm going to exchange it or just return it and go back to my 4. This morning I woke up after it was plugged in all night and it was at 100%.

I checked emails, read my morning feeds and after about 20 minutes it was down to 93%. This is on wifi with brightness at about 50%. On my 4, I could easily have done twice that before the percentages would drop like that.

It's incredibly frustrating.

Push and fetch

I followed previous post re turning off push-- doing same under advanced settings. Now I want to reinstate push feature in regular and advanced areas.

I can ONLY change back to push in iCloud and exchange and NOT on gmail and Comcast mail.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks

WTF is up with this... Charged overnight... hits 100% then drops to 94% by morning and dropped to 93% while in my hand.

Update...

11:22pm 100% - I let phone drain to 1%, then plugged it in and removed 100%.

Let the phone sit unplugged while I slept...

06:40am 83% - Usage = 45 Min Standby = 7 Hours 14 Minutes

07:56am 79% - Got to work, still haven't even unlocked phone once...

Usage = 57 Min Standby = 9 Hours, 7 Minutes

Again... from 100% to 79% over just over 8.5 hours, and I hadn't even unlocked the screen once.

Apple rates it at 200 Hours for Standby... so that's 1% every 2 hours.

I am looking at 5% every two hours... and I'm not even using iCloud and have the majority of my location services disabled, and my email is all set to Fetch Manually.

Calling Apple store today, if they have one sweet... if not I'm having one cross shipped. I give up with this one...

I don't understand. You say you didn't unlock the screen once. How did you know your usage/standby statistics without unlocking the screen?

Whats the fastest way to drain the battery?

Turn the LED Flash on... and leave it on while recording a video.

That combo will drain the battery faster than any other App / Game / Video.

Sorry, I did open it before I left for work to check the usage... and then again when I was at work.

Typing in a flurry here at the office, what I mean is that I didn't use the phone from the first time I checked the usage until I checked it again at the office almost 90 minutes later.

much better

My battery was OK the first few days and then I tweeked it to see if i could make it better...but apparently made it worse. Day before yesterday was awful...lost 30% overnight, drained quickly, etc. While i have turned off some push and location services, I have by no means turned off everything....still have find my iphone, icloud backup, etc. Two things seemed to make a difference for me. I had turned off wifi. I have OK 3G reception in my house (where i also work) but not great. I think the strain to get the 3G was killing my battery. This happened with my Droid as well. So, after turning back on WIFI it is much better. I also let it completely drain down and then charged it overnight. Unplugged it around 7am yesterday and I have:
51% remaining
usage 3hr, 48 min
standby 1 day, 1 hour

bottom line: everyone's situation is a little different so I doubt there is one quick fix. But keep trying...it's not a lost cause!:)

This makes no sense then. Your stats say that your phone has 57 min of usage but you only have unlocked it 2x to check. This means that you have something running that you are unaware of. Your battery seems to have pretty good capacity from the stats I read.

And welcome to the topic of the thread... that's my point... my phone logged 45 minutes of usage while I was sleeping. Additionally I power cycled the phone before I put it down for the night, so nothing should have been running.

It's abundantly clear that something is running in the background, eating through everyone's batteries... if we all knew what that was this thread would have ended days ago.

I have FAR LESS than the default options enabled out of the box, and my battery life is 5x less than promised by Apple... so either they are fluffing the numbers, or the phone is having an issue. Maybe it's just mine, I'm just reporting what I'm seeing.

Apple store vist 2

I went to the apple store on monday and was told to reset the phone.

I came home, updated the phone via itunes and completey rebuilt

Tested and all great for a number of days

Then last night it dropped from 100% to flat in 4 hours in standby mode with nothing running.

Went to the apple store today and they confirmed to wait for 5.01 and its a known problem

WiFi syncing is considered usage. Turn it off and you'll get better battery life.

Agree'd but wasn't that sort of the big next step for iOS 5? Android has been syncing wirelessly for ages with no probs.

I just don't see how they can offer a phone, that with the bare minimum of the massive array of features enabled, will barely last 10 hours on a charge with light usage!
