Thanks for the answer, vPrime. Are there any drivers issues I should anticipate or can i basically run it with only the software updates microsft has provided me?

I had to use the drivers that the game suggested or it wouldn't run. (catalyst 11.10). The install was painless.

I get a warning to say my drivers wont work but then the game runs anyway.

I can't seem to get a game of conquest though every game is choc full.

Everything was set to high and 1440x900 but there was some slowdown so i put it down to medium now and it seems much better.

Well I just bootcamped today and i'm having trouble installing AMD drivers it says "amd catalyst mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware software on your computer" when I try to run it, any suggestions?

Got that when i tried to update mine, also looking for a solution! Ill have a look online tomorrow i need my bed just now!

I am playing the beta, and i run everything on HIGH settings, I never tried ultra because I dont want to push my mbp, also I am using the regular drivers for the GPU, I dont think upgrade them would make any noticeable difference.
But if everyone upgrade please post some info.

I am using and early 2011 MBP with the 6750m GPU.

Go ahead and try the Ultra setting. It's not like your MBP is gonna break into two pieces! lol I have tried all the settings on my 2011 15" 2.2GHz MBP and good news is that at least in the beta there isn't such a HUGE graphical difference between the settings.

I was having the same issue as well.

After some Googling, I came across this thread.

The difference was night and day after installing the drivers in the thread above. BF3 beta was essentially unplayable on the drivers that Apple supplied. With the updated ones, I could run a mixture of high/ultra settings on my early 2011 MBP w/6750m.

from what i heard, Ultra settings haven't been implemented in the beta, and that setting it on high, and setting it on ultra will not show any discernible difference.

Ultra was greyed out for me.

How are you guys finding it on HIGH settings on the 2011 MBP? What res are you playing at?

I found 1440x900 all on high looked fantastic but there was a bit of slowdown when things start to go crazy. I put it on medium and it was much smoother.

I have downloaded the AMD 11.10 beta drivers that the game recommends I use so will give it a go when I get home tonight.

Thanks for your research, I've de- and installed as mentioned in your link and everything looks better indeed. Problem now is that my mouse has stopped working together with some other usb hardware  after removing ccc.
I'm so jealous of my son, he just downloaded the xbox beta and started playing.
USB gear is up again and the new drivers let me play at native 1920 x 1080 on medium/high when ' auto' is selected in video options.

Hey VPrime,

I have the same iMac and have followed these steps. But I can't get it to run smooth on 2560x1440 even on low. Is this what you meant by native? And what xMSAA? And HBAO or SSAO occlusion?

yeas I was running it at 2560x1440. When I started everything was set on high already. I don't remember the exact settings sorry, and I am in OSX right now.

My brothers i7 sandy bridge imac with the 2gb video option also played the same on the same settings.

Interesting. Well, I suppose I should try uninstalling and deleting old drivers, then reinstalling 11.10. I seriously have a TON of old drivers that I downloaded to get past the "Drivers unsupported neener-neener" message that inherently came with BootCamps windows. Anything else you can recommend? As far as I know 11.10 works with my 6970m because I had no snags installing.

Running BF3 on a 2011 15" AMD Radeon HD 6490M

Hi guys,

I've recently bough the early 2011 15" MBP 2.0ghz with the AMD Radeon HD 6490M (256mb). I've been scouring the forums to find out how BF3 runs on this machine, but haven;t found any (most people commenting on the next model above with the 1GB 6750M GPU).

Can someone pleeeeease let me know if BF3 would run on this machine and how badly it does so. Much Appreciated

Thanks

low resolution low setting should work.
I finished the campaign yesterday on my 15" 2010 i7 with GT 330M 512MB. I had it hooked up to a 1080p monitor. Played at 720p (1366x768) and auto settings (put everything to low). After overclocking the GPU slightly i could turn on a couple mediums.
It was steadily at 30 fps. I could have gotten bit better performance if I would've played on the built in screen, as more VRAM is available for the game.
The 6490M is a tiny (really tiny) bit slower than the GT 330M according to benchmarks, the 256MB VRAM might me a problem, but not necessarily. If you run on your built in screen at like 1280x800 and low settings you should be fine.

Thanks for the info. Just to confirm, is it still playable without overclocking the gpu? Will it still run steadily at 30 fps with all low? I have the same spec'd computer as you.

Yeh it does. Especially if you play on your built in screen and at 1280x852 (or what ever the setting is :D )
If you do want to get a little more performance, Download nVidia performance tools. Officially from them. I just overclocked the card to the technical factory settings (575MHz, 1265MHz, 1066MHz) The card in the MacBook Pro is underclocked by apple to 500MHz, 1100Mhz, 790Mhz so it consumes less power to save battery. So I went to the original and designed clock speed. I have overclocked to this a lot over the last 1.5 years when playing games. So it definitely doesn't create any problems, I thought if the card was originally meant to run at that clock speed then what can go wrong right :D.

BTW: I had the driver 260.99 installed. When launching the game it recommended 285.62. It still ran though. Half way through the campaign I upgraded to 285.62 (i think it was .62 (the newest version anyway)). Well the performance was horrible afterwards. The screen scaling was weird. It actually only played the game in a window with black borders and it was extremely jittery. I downgraded to 260.99 again and it was good.
Just thought id let you know

Thank you for the detailed info. Might even try and overclock. Now i've just got to sell the PS3 version that i rushed out and bought and buy the PC version

Hi all

I have been watching the BF3 developments with interest, as I love nearly all the BF series...

I am looking to buy the 2011 27" iMac 2.7Ghz... do you guys reckon BF3 will run ok on it?
or would I do better to spend more on the 3.1Ghz model as it has the better GPU?

I just really don't want to have to get a Windows PC or a copy for my Xbox 360  the Xbox won't work where I am moving to (they block the Xbox Live from working on the internet) and I am fed up with Windows 7!

It will run fine. I have the same model and I play it with 1280x720 resolution and Medium settings and it's very playable (about 30fps and more), with Low settings it runs really smoothly. All this with the default bootcamp drivers.

1920x1080 it's about 20 fps and lower and above fullhd it's a slide show even on low settings.

Its really easy to overclock with the nvidia tools, don't be afraid to do slight overclocking.
Playing on ps3 is still going to be way nicer than on pc!!

Much more fun with pc imho and console graphics = low settings on pc
I have both ps3 and pc version and play with my iMac all the time.

anyone have any idea on how well this would run on:
1080p or 1366x768 (I'll be playing on a 32" TV that I use as a monitor on my wall for logic...I can down the res if needed)..
My set up:
MBP late 2011
Win 7 64bit
2.4ghz i7 Quad
8GB RAM
Radeon 6770m

What sort of fps can I expect? What drivers should I update to? Is there a guide on this?

Thanks :)

Just look at this thread, look at all the results from all those posting which have a 1GB 6750M. Expect pretty much the same results. Maybe like 2-5% better.
Most people also wrote what drivers they are getting good results with, and others worth with other drivers etc.
Just take like 10 mins and read :D
but medium settings at 1366x768 should be silky smooth. Above that I have no idea
