Episode 3 Bastille Day
- Negotiations with Tom Zarek, political activist and convicted terrorist on the prison ship, the Astral Queen. Lee Adama turns the ship over to the prisoners, negotiating their help with water harvesting off a planet to gain freedom points, and promising a govt election. On Caprica, Cylon Boomer fools Lt Agathon, and they search for supplies while being observed by other Cylons.

Episode 4 Act of Contrition- History of Zack Adama, Lee's brother, who Kara Thrase (Starbuck) was in love with and his flight instructor, passed him in flight training when he failed, and subsequently was killed. It all comes out. President Roslin discusses Kamala treatment for her cancer with the skeptical doctor. On Caprica, Agathon and Cylon Boomer find a stocked fallout shelter. End of episode is Starbuck taking on 8 Cylon Raiders, with help of nugget pilot. Killing the last Raider, it's ship hits her, knocking her Viper into the atmosphere of the water planet. She manages to eject, but her fate is unknown... continued.

I was one of the few who actually really did enjoy the end of BSG, even if a large number of the episodes leading up to that were pretty poor. The first and second season were really really great, though the whole 'yeah we didn't actually write a story beyond this', coupled with the writer's strike, made some awfully disappointing episodes and began to reflect badly on the show/writers.

Nonetheless I've watched it like 5 times through, still a huge favourite of mine. I guess the bad episodes seem more disappointing because the others were that good, unlike when there's a slow episode on The Walking Dead, people seemingly don't get as offended (probably because TWD has been absolute gash since Season 1).

I really liked Babylon 5 for the story-arc and some of the acting - mainly G'Kar, I suppose - but boy oh boy has that show aged poorly. At least with BSG you can still watch it in 2015 and really enjoy it, it does have some stunning visuals and shots.

Anybody played the BSG board game? It's insanely great (5 players is optimum IMHO).

Delay in response- When I first started watching it, I was a bit critical, but I acclimated and became a fan. And I bought the ending. Despite the blemishes, it was a nice way to wrap the series, giving it an epic journey feeling. :)

Best BSG episode(s) then? I'm a real fan of the Pegasus storyline, really gritty though insanely good in every way. 3 parter if I remember rightly?

Episode 5 You Can't Go Home Again: Starbuck figures a way off the planet.

Episode 6 Litmus: No.5 Doral boards and explodes an IED on Galactica. Tribunal turns into a witch hunt.

Episode 7 Six Degrees of Seperation: Shelly Godfrey appears on the Galactica accusing Balter of treason.

Episode 8 Flesh and Bone: No.2 Conroy is caught on the Gemenum Traveler and claims there is a bomb onboard a ship, but he won't tell where.

I'm not there yet!

Dr. Baltar and No.6
Episode 9 Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down- Good news, they have a Cylon test, bad news, it will only take Dr. Baltar 60 years to test everyone, lol. Ellen Tigh (footsie under the table), Col Tigh's wife appears on BG. Starbuck walks in on Balter having sex with No.6 (the Cylon he only sees in his head), and he pretends he's exercising :)

Note: If during certain activities like sex, a Cylon's spine glows red through their skin, you'd think the physiological differences were significant enough compared with a human, that it would not be that hard to come up with a faster way to verify...back to suspension of disbelief. ;)

Episode 10 Hand of God- Spiritual info about Pythia, the ancient oracle who wrote of Kobol, humans living with the Gods, then the exile of the 13 tribes and the journey to Earth which they seek. BG stages a raid on a Cylon fuel refinery.

Episode 11 Colonial Day- Baltar the Cylon expert wins election as Vice President, held on the Cloud 9 Luxury Liner. Tom Zarek former terrorist and prisoner, now free is suspected of foul play during the elections. 47 Days stranded on Caprica, Lt Agathon realizes Lt Sharon Valerii, his fellow stranded pilot is a Cylon.

Episode 12/13 Kobol's Last Gleeming Pt1 &2 - Kobol is discovered, birthplace of mankind, a temple is discovered, a Cylon who thinks she's a human goes on a mission to destroy a Cylon base ship. Realization that a close friend is not only a Cylon, but is having my baby! :) No.6 beats the crap out of Starbuck when she tries to retrieve a prophetic arrow on Caprica. Cylon programming wins over resolve and a high-ranking someone get's shot.

Longshot and Starbuck.

Episode 14- Scattered
During an emergency jump, BSG becomes separated from the fleet. On Kobol. No. 6 shows Baltar their baby. Starbuck and Helo team up on Caprica to escape the planet.

Episode 15- Valley of Darkness Cylons onboard BSG. Kobol Raptor crash survivors on run. Starbuck and Helo visit her apartment with a wall of painted icons.

Episode 16- Fragged Unrest in the fleet, civilians clash with military. Col Tigh declares Marshall Law. Kobol survivors plan an attack on a Cylon missile battery. Lt Crashdown meets a surprising end.

Episode 17-Resistence On Caprica, Starbuck and Helo run into the resistance led by Sam Longshot Anders. Chief Tyrol is accused of being complacent with Boomer. With help, Roslin escapes BSG. Sharon Valerii (BSG) destined for experimentation as a Cylon gets a premature download.

Ok, so I got distracted and am back watching. :D:D

Last night finished Season 2, episodes 8&9. Final Cut where D'anna Biers (not Troy, but Lucy Lawless ;)) is revealed to be a Cylon (No.3), and Flight of the Pheonix where Chief Tyrell builds a fighter, The Blackbird, from scratch, makes peace with Caprica Boomer, after she saves the fleet's bacon from a massive humanity-ending Cylon attack and is rewarded by Adama... Tossing her back into the brig. It's hard to trust a Cylon.

I was severely critical of the original series because it was typical '80s camp. So when the pilot movie for this aired on BBC America, I had low expectations. Boy was I wrong. It was a good story. Reminded me in a lot of ways of Babylon 5, another great series.

Some day I'll get around to ordering the DVDs, but at the moment I have a few other shows on my priority list.

Season 2, Episodes 10-12- The Pegasus and Ressurection Ship Pts 1&2 sequence featuring the power struggle with Admiral Cain played by Michelle Forbes (Ensign Ro on STNG with appearance on True Blood) had me sitting on the edge of my seat, even though I'd seen it before.

It finally dawned on me there is some replicant Blade Runner vibe going on here. :) In the following episode Epiphines, Roslin is saved from cancer by an injection of Cylon/human fetal blood.

Restarted my rewatch of Battlestar Galactica. :):)

Near the end of Season Two, Episode- Downloaded where they show what happened to Caprica No.6 and Battlestar Boomer after they died. They find God. They also save resistance leader Samual "Longshot" Anders from execution by No. 3 D'iana Biers, after a bomb he sets collapses a building they are in, when Caprica No.6 kills No.3 (to also be downloaded ;)).

President Roslin decides to take Caprica Boomer and Helo's hybrid human-Cylon baby from them to be raised by an anomous mother, telling them the baby died. It's too dangerous to let the Cylons know they can reproduce biologically with humans and the existence of this baby.

Oct 2019: It appears that the entire Battlestar Galactica series starting with the 2003 Miniseries is on SYFY Now for free viewing! :D However it does not appear to be high definition, but it’s not terrible. At least I was not asked to subscribe.

SYFY Now doesn't require a subscription? Or just certain titles like that one?

I don’t know, I just pulled it up and it started playing, and I don’t have a subscription, at least I don’t think I do. ;) Maybe they give you a free taste, but nothing popped up that I noticed.

I only half-remembered posting to this thread before, and what I said still stands. But since then I had a chance to view several episodes of the first season.

I like what they did to the show. For the most part they really kept close to the spirit of the original series while jettisoning the (many) cheesier elements. It's what I wish Netflix had done with Lost in Space.

But...

As enjoyable as the show was, for me it ground to a halt every time the cylon mentioned accepting your savior. I'm very uncomfortable with proselytizing. I understand Mormon ideas were woven into the original series too, but they didn't seem as...obvious.

That's me, and YMMV. If it were not for the religious aspects, I'd probably be as happy with the show as the rest of you.

As an overall space saga, I guess I still prefer Babylon 5, which also had some spiritual aspects but kept them a little more...I don't know, fictionalized? If B5 has one weakness, it's that its original CG effects didn't age well, and just as Warner isn't interested in spending money on restoring the Snyder Cut, they're obviously not interested in spending money on redoing the effects for B5.

Babylon 5 was extremely steeped in religious metaphor, heck, look at the name of the show! Umm, Kosh? :D

The effects are interesting as they were done using Amiga computers, I was a huge fan of those machines, at one point I even had a Video Toaster and was doing video work as kind of a side gig - the FX were rendered in a different A/R, so while there's masters in 16:9, viewing those with the FX means things are even worse than the original 4:3 broadcasts.

You should definitely try Battlestar again, the journey is great, even if we eventually wind up at a Denny's at 3am ...

The interesting thing about Cylons is that they started as mechanical, wanted so badly to be human at some point transitioned to biological and considered their existence, ending up falling prey to a human foible, not that a supreme intelligence (to them) and creator could exist, but that they knew specifics about it, all the usual religious stuff, deity rules, regulations, code of conduct, feelings and such.

Granted this is not PRSI, so I’ll stop there by saying their adoption of a diety did not bother me. I think you can assume when you see God in science fiction for the most part, it’s just reflecting humanities weaknesses back at us.

Or it's a reflection of human greatness above cold hearted machines...
ok ok, I will leave this to PRSI 😁

And that’s a great topic, if you give a computer enough equivalence neurons, sensors and a program allowing creative thinking, could that machine achieve self awareness as we perceive it? :)

The human brain: 86 billion neurons, trillions of connections:

Yes, it’s still on my mind, not helping when I read forum posts where it is mentioned. 😝
How to stream ‘Battlestar Galactica’
So say we all.
Mar 31, 2020,
Unfortunately it is reported (although 4 years ago) that the SYFY app programming includes a lot of commercials. And Amazon is freaking ridiculous, each season (4) at $35 a season HD to purchase as Prine Video streaming, but I did see a couple BR complete sets for sale at $60 each. Most likely if I jump back into this it will be via my BluRay boxed set.

The effects are interesting as they were done using Amiga computers

Only for (parts of) the 1st season.

SeaQuest had most of it's effect done on Amiga (and C= even did commercials for the CD32Bit back in it's original run).
To bad that show was 100% c##p even when compared to other shows of that time.
