I played little league baseball with Blaine's little brother, and he would occasionally swing by games to hang out and do some tricks. He's a lot more normal than people make him out to be, and as far as his actual "magic" tricks go, he's pretty impressive.

David Blaine might be a weirdo to some but cmon, card tricks and some of his street stunts are quite amazing.

people can say all they want that its stupid, or gay, or obviously not magic.

but I implore you to try even one impressive card trick.

you cant.

He is a good entertainer, and his training of his hands and mis-direction is second to none.

Misdirection is one thing... because thats basically what all illusions are.

Post production editing though? That IS how he does the "levitation trick" that we see on TV. Thats not illusion, thats hackery.

I now David Blaine often uses David Balducee (Sp?) self levitation method, that involves no strings or anything. I used this trick alot just goofing arround with friends (I was never into magic).

Apparently he's not going for the world record anymore, but rather just 8 minutes underwater. (I just heard this on Prime-Time)
Pah, pus*y!

Yes and no. He does the Balducci levitation act in front of people on the street. Then he says "here's what it would look like if I were suspended by cables" and shows them that. Back at the studio they digitally edit out the cables and then splice THAT performance with the audience's reaction from the Balducci act. Hence why we see both of his feet leaving the ground on the tv.

Hackery.

Ah, but he got everyone to tune in anyway because he was suppose to break the record, so mission accomplished there.

Hype is a wonderful thing. :p

In case anyone actually cares about David "Attention Whore" Blaine, he didn't make it. They had to pull him out after around 7 minutes. I watched some of it, mainly due to the fact that I didn't want to watch the Cardinals get their ass kicked, there was nothing else on TV, and I was bored. Normally, I wouldn't waste my time :D

Give the guy a break people. I'm not really sure why the majority of the replies in this thread talk negatively about him but IMO I think he is an amazing entertainer. Everytime his "street magic" shows are on televesion I can't help but watch... even if they are editted as some of you suggest. He held his breath for 7-8 minutes...he failed... so what. But what is legit is that he stayed in that fishbowl for like a week (regardless of the time it's still very impressive).

In the magic community, few people have much respect for him.

That's pretty funny, cuz in the real world few people have much respect for the magic community.

Blaine has found a way to make magic interesting to a whole new generation and magicians everywhere should be grateful. When magic is popular, magicians get more work. And even without the fancy TV editing, the tricks Blaine does are impressive live, and any magician worth his (or her) salt can do them. They should take the cue to hang up the sequined tuxedos, brush off their deck of cards... and thank David Blaine for the new "coolness" he's given magic.

There's only one thing worse than being slagged off, and that's being ignored. Blaine gets our attention. Our reaction is part of the performance.

BTW, MPW. Ladyshave :D :D :D
