From the other thread....

Bayonetta first.

Story: WTF is going on ? Seriously I know it's the love child of the original Devil May Cry guy, but seriously can't we have a plot and cut scenes that make 'some' sense for a change. I'm all for quirky japanese pop culture but sometimes I really wish they would make a tangible story told in a way that people who haven't been pumped full of LSD can actually get to grips with and follow. Maybe I'm too old or somthing ? Basically its all over the place and makes little sense, just like most Japanese action titles.

Gameplay / Presentation : The game really does shine visually. The first 20 minutes of the game however feel a little out of your control, as the story takes over and your left playing a couple minutes here, 5 minutes of cutscenes followed by 2 minutes gameplay and then another 5 minute story cutscene etc... However thankfully once your over the first 35 minutes the gameplay settles in, and you realise that somehow you have learnt a 'few' basic combat moves to get you going. I say a few as the amount of combo's and button combinations is mind boggling.

Graphically the game does shine, if it's choice of locations don't really gel together, a problem I had with Devil May Cry's last outing also. That being said the frame rate so far has been lock solid, the pace frenetic (thank goodness for witch time) and some really nice particle and visual effects.

So far the game is very good, however it's certainly not worth the 'perfect' scores it acquired in some gaming press, but it is pretty much the 'pivotal' and essential example of its game genre and style.

Supplemental.

The game is a really great action game. I'm really enjoying it and there are some really memorable moments.

The enemies are memorable and the presentation excels at all times, regardless if you can understand it.

IGN, the internet's preeminent video game review site, said the 360 version is the best action game they've ever played, but the PS3 version lags far behind.

Based on my experience, it's pretty awesome indeed. Not perfect, and maybe or maybe not the best 3D hack and slash game I've played, but very good.

I played the demo, and it didn't do anything for me (besides making me go "wtf?" a couple of times).

Then again, I also grew bored with Devil May Cry after a few levels, so your mileage may vary...

They tell the story Taranteno esque. Small chunks of unfathomable information in random order with excrutiating dialogue and somehow in it's final moments in seems to come together and make sense (kind of). Of course also Tarrnteno esque it's chock full of violence too :)

Lol. Thanks guys, I'll be downloading the demo for a quick run through and look for a Darksider demo while I'm at it. :)

I'm really enjoying playing Bayonetta... That is when we actually get to play. I think the cutscenes are way too long especially in the beginning and everytime you get a new weapon and so on. It will be much better once I finish the game and then can skip all the cutscenes for non-stop action :) In short: gameplay is sweet, way too many cutscenes stopping you from "climaxing".

Sounds like my experience when playing MGS4. As a completionist, I just had to watch the cutscenes the first time through. You know, don't want to miss something. But damn, the next time through, when you skip all that crap, the game is just SOOOO much better paced and much more fun.
