Just got back from Best Buy, they also will not add the Education Discount to the sale price because the sale price is more of a savings than the Education Discount.

As mentioned I got Apple to PM BB without issue, my question is how can BB sell the rMBP $250 less than Apple. I would think that BB is now selling the rMBP at their cost or below. Also doesn't Apple frown up their sales channels selling that much below MSRP, don't get me wrong I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth but seriously what is BB up to?

Yea, but best buy has their own education discount on MacBooks for an additional $50 off, bringing the price down to $1699 and $2299 for the 15'' models.

BHphoto doesn't have tax as mentioned before which would make it a better deal for most. I'm just trying to decide if I should hold out for macmall to match the price and then get the apple insider discount.

Or if you are lucky enough to live in America you could think yourself lucky that you are already paying 1k less than the rest of the world and stop being greedy.

Somebody has a fish & chip on his shoulder. Booooooring.

Actually you should be within the holiday apple extended return period, so it should work.

http://store.apple.com/us/help/returns_refund#policy

Online purchases fall under Holiday Return Policy...

think you have to get lucky to get the final 50 (i7 coupon. i7 coupon isn't meant for the macs, and you cant get apply it online, so you have to go to a store and convince a manager). for the first 300: 250 sale + 50 student macbook discount

Edit: for educational coupon you need to sign up on the best buy page with a .edu email. they'll send you an email with a bunch of promo codes, which can only be used once.

just wanted to let you know guys, I got my 15 rMBP about a week ago and I called apple and they refused to refund the difference in money but they did gave me a free apple tv wich is not bad either considering I got the studen discount too!

Would the Apple store pricematch to Best Buy, and then let me do an upgrade on the RAM based on the pricematch price?

e.g. $180 extra to get 16GB Ram on the lowest end 15inch

Wow... lol.
Well, I'm super happy. I got mine right before they closed today! Got it for $1649, $100 off for Education pricing. No creaks or anything wrong with the screen.
Just gotta decide if I should keep this of the Early 2013 refurb I got from the Apple store. Gonna have to miss out on the 16GB memory if I keep this. Someone help me choose!!!

Comparing base models, the refurb would be what I'd choose. In addition to that extra memory, the GPU is nice to have, even if you aren't sure you'll need it. Unless you're using an 802.11ac access point, attaching TB2 peripherals, or really think the extra hour of (stated) battery life will make a big difference to you, the new Haswell base model is not an improvement over the previous generation.

you may be able to convince someone, but as a general rule, no.

Even better deal B&H has the 15" rMBP for $1750 with free Parallels and Lojack software. I posted a link on this thread here about it.

this is the same one some people have posted about in this thread

one thing to keep in mind too is that BH has a no return on laptops policy. since a lot of people have been having trouble with these 15 in screens, it's worth mentionin

I called Apple Support and got a confirmation that the store would price match
my prepurchashed Macbook Pro. Went in today and was shot down. Said my education discount was all they would do. After hours on the phone I ended up getting $150 off of a LaCie 1tb hard drive. So I paid the $50 on that but ended up with my $2,600 Macbook Pro minus $200 edu discount costing $2,250. I can't complain.

All I have to say is that Best Buy is super pleasant to deal with. The only caveat I have to add is that they are pleasant within reason. I was able to secure a macbook pro retina through their customer support line at an amazing deal. The total I ended up paying for the 2.3 model was $1970 all said and done. The entire order consisted of speaking to two agents and about 1.5 hours total.

Interaction 1: Was browsing Best Buy's website and saw a deal for $250 off on the retina 15" 2.3. Was instantly curious about pairing a price match with this deal, because I had a 170 dollar gift card to use. To my luck, the guy I spoke with added it out in a cart but became suspicious when he listed my price with the older 2013 model. I questioned him on this and he stated that he couldn't price match the other unit. I concluded the encounter by telling him I was going elsewhere.

Interaction 2: I talk to some lady about price matching apple's education pricing. She said it was no problem because there was a comment in my account for a price match. This unit was the 2.3 newer model that I wanted. I was happy at this point, but always wanted just a little more on this crazy ass deal. So I bugged her for the $50 off coupon, but she stated she couldn't use two promotional codes. I lied and claimed that the other guy I spoke with added it, but I wasn't too concerned about getting the $50 off; I was already getting such a deal...

At this point I am super excited and I give the lady my gift card #, and card # to purchase the item. I then have her write it so I could pick it up in Delaware, where I knew there were no sales taxes, not necessarily in that order.

In the end, saved 170 bucks on sales taxes and 450 on the actual computer. Was able to use my gift card, no problem, and left with a macbook pro retina 2.3 originally $2599 for less than 2 grand all said and done. Definitely happy with my purchase and had to share my experience. Cheers to those who made out the same way!
